I am a rising senior at a top 20 university. I was pre-med for the first 1.5 years and completed all the requirements except for Orgo 2. I got burned out after those years and have been doing Economics/Comparative Literature. I got all As for the classes and labs except Orgo 1 (had pneumonia during final and got B+).

My question: What med schools, other than UF, require only one semester of Orgo? I can study for the MCAT during the summer and refresh, but I doubt I will be able to do well in Orgo 2.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I thought all schools needed a full year of OChem? Even if that's not true, you are still better off taking it anyway because of the MCAT.

At this point I am concerned more with my original question, which was: What med schools only require one semester of Orgo?

Bump.

Look at my MDapps. I took one semester of orgo and a semester of biochem. Only Mayo and Ohio State told me I would need to take orgo II prior to matriculating, fwiw.

Buy an MSAR, every school's reqs are listed.
Even better. 👍 If you buy an MSAR for $25 and it saves you from applying to even ONE school that doesn't accept any OOS, it will pay for itself.

Did you take biochem? I'm pretty sure the schools that only require one semester of orgo want a semester of biochem.

It's irrelevant because if you end up having a patient somewhere down the road suffering from nucleophilic attack at their carbonyl carbon you won't know the mechanism to treat them and they'll die

👍. There are NO schools that accept only Orgo I. There are some that accept orgo I and biochem... I was planning to do this end here is a link to a thread I started: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=674097.

After contacting many schools I was really interested in (especially in CA), the vast majority would NOT accept this. I decided to take o-chem II so as to NOT greatly limit the number of schools I could apply to.
