Had a back injury last month while playing football with some friends. Doc says I need 6-8 months of PT in order to get back in shape. If it doesn't get better, surgery may be in the picture. Will this be too much info for the schools to know? Hoping they won't get scared and not honor a deferment due to me potentially not fulfilling the physical standards (which is unknown at this time).

Thanks

have you been accepted yet? that makes a world of difference. If you have an acceptance they will most likely grant deferment, I think. My good friend was allowed to defer for a year to get a benign tumor removed.

i spoke with a medical student during one of my interviews...she started first year and came down with severe medical problems. they allowed her to work around it and she basically started where she left off with the new incoming class. i think they would understand... [i think this was at LECOM-Erie but honestly cant remember...]

what did you do to your back? what kind of surgery/rehab? i had to have surgery on my shoulder last year (torn labrum/rotator cuff - ~6 months 50% recovery and ~12months to 95% recovery) and that was one of several reasons i waited an extra year to apply. looking back it would have been hard to get through...but by no means impossible.

Every school has a policy for students with medical problems, however, they may differ from school to school. You should contact them directly if you are in doubt.

I'm bored so ... REVIVED!!!

Won't it come up in the medical history you need to have submitted before classes? It says on my history (to be performed by a physician, obviously) that "STUDENT IS ALREADY ADMITTED" and the info won't be used to decide whether or not to keep me.
