Would this be a beneficial volunteer opportunity to add to a medical school application or would I be better advised to seek out something else? I would be working directly under the supervision of our local public health coordinator who is a physician, of course.

I searched for medical reserve corps on here and surprisingly found zero entries. I thought that a bit strange so I figured a thread would be good.

Keep in mind this is not the military Medical Corps but rather the civilian volunteer Reserve Corps. I would be working alongside other non-trained personnel, nurses, doctors, pharmacists, mental health professionals, etc.

I've been involved in my local MRC for about a year and during the last couple of months got my emt license. I enjoy the mrc but it is just as it says "reserve"

Being able to speak Spanish I do some community work with them in the local Hispanic community but I've heard that where I live (gulf coast) we get busy during hurricane season. I would recommen doing it because it takes little time and is actually pretty fun.

Great! Thanks for the direct feedback on it. Since I'm working directly under our local health district's public health coordinator she's letting me take on the expanded role of coordinating a local chapter of MRC. That makes it much more appealing as a volunteer opportunity for my med school applications.

I had my orientation today and went through with it.

If anyone ever has any questions about Medical Reserve Corps let me know. As far as I could find, this is the only thread on here about it. Strange.
