I know people have asked about a medical school's campus and surrounding area but now I am curious about which medical schools are architecturally interesting or really neat?

Anyone who has been inside classrooms or lecture halls should also mention the inside facilities but I am kind of looking at which buildings are the most architecturally interesting.

So far I just gave a look at Cincinatti's building and it looks very cool. Trying to find out who designed it, unless someone else knows.

ps try to include a picture if you can!

nice, i like the old look in a lot of places too,
but I would hope that the inside is completely modern and up to date.

Temple's new building, will be complete for entering class.

Cinci's new CARE building was designed by Harley Ellis Devereaux of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Harvard's med school is very traditional with marble, pillars and such. Although inside most schools is the same.. a lecture hall is a lecture hall..not really all that special.

ehhh I beg to differ. Some buildings are a pleasure to be inside of b/c they situate the rooms nicely with great views and the rooms have amazing chairs and AV equipment too.
Lighting, floor plans are all kinda important in how you utilize the building. I liked our brand new science facility in college b/c it was super easy to go from building to building or find a study room with computers and stuff. I'm kinda interested in how each school stacks up that way I guess.

Medical center at Weill Cornell - this building looks so cool

Einstein's brand spanking new genetic and translational research center. You can't see it but the inside is all wood paneling & has a huge DNA helix stair case

And Bellevue Hospital at NYU

that's chic. I loved doing my "interview tour." Not only did I get to go to new places but almost all of the schools are beautiful in their own way.

I don't have many pictures (and I can never upload anything on here anyway), but of the places I've been to, I'd like to also point out Columbia-Presbyterian (their big pyramid crystal lobby is stunning), Mount Sinai (the building itself is a painfully hideous eyesore, but inside it's so lovely-the Guggenheim pavilion is full of light and it makes that place look huge and friendly), and Duke, cause of their amazing gothic theme and beautiful gardens.

Honorable mentions: Vanderbilt, which is building some really cool new stuff in the medical center (they have the biggest med school library I've seen so far and it's brand new and filled with light), and Emory, for the really clean white marble look. The med school building was just opened this year, too, and it's really a pleasure to be in. The classrooms are huge and really computer-friendly.

Of the schools I've interviewed at, Iowa stood out as one of the cooler looking campuses.

It kind of looks like a greenish Death Star or space station or something. The lecture halls are quite modern as is the common areas that they separated for each of the 4 communities, so they are quite functional. Pretty neat.

wow, that is cool. I remember looking through the MSAR and noticed Iowa had a pretty cool picture. I had no idea that it was Green! I dig.

Also the sharp angles are boss.

I though University of Maryland's Medical Center was so cool on the inside. They took an old building and built a new building around it.

This is a picture on the INSIDE of the medical center (natural light 😍):

I suddenly find myself jacked to go to UMD.

those are some crazy cool lighting effects at UNC. Whats the name of the building?

the top is the north carolina children's hospital and bottom north carolina women's hospital. the lights on the ceiling in the women's hospital are mirrored at the top floor of the hospital and look ridiculous from outside at night

I did not interview at LSU, but it is right next door to Tulane, and I can attest that it is singularly ugly. I actually saw some barbed wire.

Penn is very pretty on the inside -- nice lecture halls, marble floors in the hallways... As grad students who paid no money to attend, our facilities kind of got the shaft, but the clinical areas were very nice 🙂

Mayo Clinic

and another

too bad they have such a tiny tiny class size!

Surprisingly, Stanford's facilities are awful, at least the clinical ones. The hospital is old and hideous and basically in disrepair, as are a lot of the outpatient clinics (although they have just built a new outpatient center that's supposed to be state of the art). I know they're planning on rebuilding the whole hospital, but they said it probably won't really be done until like 2030. On the other hand, the research areas are top notch, and the med school is getting a brand new education building soon.
But yeah, you can kind of see where Stanford's focus lies. The research facilities are amazing, but the clinical ones....less so.

Shamelessly plugging SGU in the Carib. They have a campus thats been under construction since the opening and its near completion, but I have to admit it does look pretty darn nice.

That's the most crazy-overglorified image i've ever seen of UNC's cafeteria. I had to look for a few seconds before I recognized it. Suffice to say it does not look that nice when you're waiting in the long line and trying to find a table heh

haha yeah, I would much rather see people in the Allo thread just run around snapping pictures of their buildings and posting them, but for now, google image search and lots of lighting effects, here we come!

thank you kaydubz stripping my sdn legitimacy. haha but seriously, the women's hospital does look exactly like that, give me SOME credit.

Pitt (first one is a render, since I couldn't find construction pics)

Yeah, note I didn't besmirch your womens' hospital pic =P

The WashU picture is interesting - it looks as if its a building surrounded by an enclosure. Does anyone have more pictures of Dartmouth? I like their undergrad campus style and wonder if the med school is as nice. This is prob how I am going to select med schools to apply to I bet. 😉

is the egyptian building where classes and lab are mostly held or is it offices and other sorts of things? That looks so awesome.

i believe its the cathedral of learning. its a fascinating building you ought to check out

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Learning

Unfortunately I don't think its used much for classes anymore, its mostly office space from what I have heard. It is not a part of the med school.

no but I ventured in on my interview day and it is absolutely beautiful.

Classes, I believe for the 1st year.

Yeah, first year lectures are in the Egyptian building. They also house the classrooms for ICM (Introduction to Clinical Medicine). I don't know if either of those will be moved when construction of the Medical Science Building 3 is completed.

My undergrad has a building a lot like that, just a little bigger..

Dude, is that Baylor undergrad?

I asked the Allo folks if they had anything to put here, so maybe we can get some more pics.

haha UNC is like a resort hotel, methinks.
