Medical school Architecture thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't really show up any of these schools, but I enjoy my place enough. Especially our learning communities where we have a little kitchenette, shower, conference rooms with all sorts of stuff, couches, etc. Each class is divided into 4 subgroups. We don't have much of a traditional library. We do have one of the largest digital collections around though. They spend some obscene amount of money for it. Their reasoning is that most of those medical texts are outdated by the time they hit the shelf anyway.

So, here are a few pictures. It actually looks much nicer now. We have a huge new bio building and a little walkway and more landscaping now.

(Not really many indoor pictures) Our clinical centers for 3rd and 4th year are all throughout florida, but I'll post a few.

Not quite as much glitz as the others, but hey...I like it.

Does anybody have UWashington pics?

picture a rundown, generic institutional-looking bldg...that's the UW med school bldg. it's pretty rundown and crappy looking inside and out. the city of Seattle is gorgeous...the UWSOM, not so much

Emory Med! Completed in 2007, you'll spend about 90% of your studies in this one, huge, beautiful building your first two years. Anatomy on the right, Physiology on the left, ehehe.

The classrooms inside look like all the other ones posted so far...

Then, you start your clinicals at Grady (aka the ghetto! 🙂):

i like the thread, but these pics arent really all that representative of what they look like in real life...

Once Im up there with my camera, we will have some nice picture 😀

Yeah, UWSOM isn't the prettiest school in the world. Not really any wonder that "Good" pictures are kinda hard to find.

Here are some 'Highlights':

Lake-side view of the newer section of Health Sciences, K wing on the left, H on the right. Mostly basic science research labs

Wide shot of the Med. Center, which is pretty much everything from the tower on. The greenhouse-looking thing at the bottom is the new(ish) surgery pavillion. It's actually pretty sweet and probably the nicest building we have.

The whole she-bang. Basic sciences + Anatomy are taught in the T-wing, which is the slender white-ish portion in the upper left. Fun fact: UW HSB is the largest educational building in the country, and has the 2nd longest continuous hallway, behind the Pentagon.

Finally, a clip of the 'renovation' of the med school's learning space in T wing. If you want an idea of what 95% of the building actually looks like, see 0:39-1:05.

Need to find some good ones of MD Anderson, especially the waterwall. I love that thing.

EDIT:

Not seen very well is the Basic Science Building. It's a sprawling 1-story building that contains labs, 2/3 auditoriums, cafeteria, library, etc. Impossible to get a picture of, but here's the entrance:

I found this school to be pretty damn ugly compared to others. The inside is a lot prettier and newer, but couldn't really find any pics of that.

Washington University in St. Louis!

I'm a first year there and I grabbed some of these from the internet.

WashU's pictures explain why student's stats are exceedingly high.

I especially like the buiding inside the buidling concept.

Building in a building... same architect as UMB and Bellevue?

Those pictures of WashU do look phenomenal. I'll try to post some pictures of schools I've seen when I can.

Bump

Now that it's well into the interview season, anybody have cool/interesting pics to share of their travels?

The last picture is a room in one of the undergrad libraries. I might try to study there every now and then.

Here's an artist rendering of UCI's new student medical education building. It should be opening within the month I think.

med_ed_rendering_lg.jpg

"The centerpiece to the building will be its telemedicine facility, which will include a 60-seat interactive televideo center, a clinical simulation lab and clinical skills center. Students will utilize digitally controlled, full-body simulators in operating-room and trauma-room settings, and the televideo room will allow students to see medicine practiced at distant locations with real-time ability to communicate with clinical instructors."

What an awesome thread! Some of these medical schools look like Gattaca.

Great thread. I've always had a pet love for architecture.

Vet schools are a lot more limiting (only 28 of us in the US). Most don't look quite so nice but there are some good looking ones out there. The only one that comes to mind, that I've seen personally, is Ohio State's.

veterinary_06_Ohio-State.jpg

And that's not the whole building (not my picture). The inside looks quite nice as well.
