I graduated from NYU with a degree in Biochemistry in May 2010. I lost motivation during my senior year, and my grades tanked. I graduated with cGPA - 3.392, and sGPA - 3.39.

I work a lot. We took out a 20k loan for school which I paid off myself in its entirety. I still work.

I work at an HIV/AIDS clinic in the heart of the West Village, and I have been here for 5 years. I worked on a patent at a Laser Eye Surgery Clinic as well, though that was only for a 1.5 years. I currently work at a lab in Mt. Sinai which I love very much, and my PI promised me several publications.

Aside from all of this, I have been spending my time doing my own thing that may or may not translate well for an adcom. I have taken up bodybuilding. If you were to see me now, you will see an incredibly healthy and fit individual who is articulate and authoritative.

I have also picked up a martial art - Sambo, which incoporates all fighting ranging from striking, grappling, throws, and ground-fighting.

I had originally planned on taking the MCAT this January, and even though I am seeing consistent 36,37,38's on my practice exams - I am not ready, and will take it later perhaps in May because I know I can do a lot better.

Once I am accepted into a medical school, I will have the USAF pay on their dime so I can be an AF doc for 4-5 years of service and experience. I won't be getting paid as much as private doctors, but considering they will pay 200k for school, giving me free lodging and meals, as well as training, it's an offer I will take them up on.

I have no real questions about this thread. The only real worry I have is my low GPA, because I would like to get into a school in the US and preferably in NY. This is why I am focusing so hard on my MCAT score.

Aside from all of this, I am interested to see what you guys think at SDN?

you know, i would ordinarily say that you have a low chance with that gpa, but you definitely do have a good chance to get accepted. if you score a 38 and have a 3.4 gpa, i'm certain that a bunch of schools will interview you, especially if you did alright in your pre-req courses. on top of that, you have good volunteering and potentially awesome research with those publications.

keep working hard.

I did great in all my pre-req's, I just got C's in Physical Chemistry I and II, and some other upper level sciences.
