1. I'm wondering what is the latest date to take the new MCAT while still being able to apply this cycle. I know it varies by school, but I can't seem to find much information online about score updates. Does anyone have detailed information on score updates that you could share with me?

2. I know people have recommended submitting the AMCAS in June, soon after it opens. I'm wondering why exactly it's beneficial to do so, since in my case I would prefer to wait to submit my primaries until after I have received my second MCAT score (e.g. in September).

1. MCAT scores usually come out 2-3 weeks after the test.

2. Yes, submit your AMCAS ASAP. It doesn't necessarily have to have your MCAT in there right away because the verification process takes some time. It's beneficial to submit early because you want to be in the initial pool of applications that are received. Historically, students who submit earlier have a higher rate of acceptance (based on this site and my personal experience).

2.1 Why are you taking the MCAT a second time in September? You should plan to take it sometime between May-early July for cycle timing. No later then late July, but the difference in a few weeks between June/July is pretty negligible. If you are entirely complete by late July, you are in good shape. The early the better, but do not rush it. It is a high stakes exam and a low score can be brutal. With that said, if you don't have a score by September, it's probably best to just wait until the next cycle. There is no shame in gap years!
