Dear Doraemon:

I?ve sent you a message.
All three universities are very good, but the University of Navarra is one of the best medical schools in Europe, and it?s the only private medical school in Spain, also if you are foreign it?s maybe the only university to which you can accede, even it?s extremely competitive go there.
You can check further info at www.unav.es this university has among the best hospitals in Europe.
The U. De Salamanca is the university with longer tradition and older university, I think started in the 13-14th century.
The U. Complutense is a very good and prestigious university in the Madrid, you can check their web pages.

P.D. Good luck to Ferrero and Costa in the tomorrow?s Roland Garros tennis final, and the Spain soccer team at the World Championships in Korea-Japan we?ll do it.

Did you send me a private message to my e-mail address? I haven't received it.

Thanks for your reply. I was under the impression the U. Complutense was the best Medical School in Spain, but maybe I was wrong.

If I may ask, which school are you attending? I'm interested in finding out how the classes are set up and how the system is. Also, how familiar are you with the application process? I have a bachelor and master degrees in engineering. As I understand, I have to homologate and validate those degrees first. Do I still have to do Selectividad or not? All my research about it is inconclusive. The website for the Ministerio de Educacion y Cultura seems to indicate that I don't have to do the Selectividad as long as I can homologate my degrees.

Thanks for your help.

Dear Doreamon:

I?ve sent you a couple of e-mails but I don?t know why you haven?t received it.Try to e-mail me or leave your e-mail address.
I?ve been looking a little bit what you need to do to enter in a medical school in Spain.
Regarding the best medical schools, it?s difficult to say because there are very prestigious medical schools, but there isn?t an official ranking for them.
We use to say that medical schools with a higher match rate for residency ( that it?s extremely hard to get a position with a 66% unmatch rate !!! ), I would say that the best medical schools can be:
- Universidad Autonoma de Madrid
- Universidad de Barcelona
- Universidad de Navarra ( the only med school private )
- Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona
I?ve asked to my medical school what you need to do to get a position being foreign ( even I don?t know where are you from ):

If you have an university degree already in your country, you don?t need to take the hard Selectividad exams if:

1- The Ministerio de Educacion validate your degree to our pre-med ( Bachillerato ).
2-The medical school where you want to apply validates you at least 1 credit of the medicine career. ( For example if you have done psicology or other career with common subjects with medicine you can be exempt to take the Selectividad exams ).

If the medical school where you apply validates you between 1-60 credits you can accede if the 1-3 % of positions booked for foreigns are not full, but if you get convalidated more than 60 credits you can accede directly.

If you can?t convalidate any credit of your degree to the medical school where you want to apply, you need to pass the painful Selectividad exams, and get an enough score to accede to medicine ( it has the highest scores ).

Anyway the best information is not in the MEC, call to the medical school where you are interested to go and ask them what you need and explain them your situation.

Also the Universidad de Navarra like is private maybe they have more info about foreigns going there, even medicine it?s very hard to get in, an if you aren?t european can be difficult, but you have to ask them.

Anyway try to e-mail me.
Hope this helps.

I lived in Pamplona for a couple months during my two year stay in Spain and have been to the hospital their. It is very nice and everyone says it is by far the best school in Spain. Pamplona is also a great city and isn't too big. Let me know anything you find out about going to school there, I am interested as well. I was also under the impression that Pamplon's school is run by the Opus Dei (spelling??) which might make getting in a little harder if your not a member or Catholic but I'm not sure.

The University of Pamplona has one of the best reputations in Europe and Pamplona it?s a very nice city.
I don?t think it has the best medical school, but it has one of the best by sure.
You are true they are part of the Opus Dei, a catholic organization, and they use to get people from this organization.
I don?t know the exact acceptance criteria to be accepted in this university, because it?s the only private medschool in Spain, so the way the accept people it?s different.
They have in consideration your CV, scores in the Selectividad exams ( like the american MCAT), and exams done by the medical school, also if you are within the Opus Dei it?s an extra value.
Anyway check it at www.unav.es and www.unav.es/cun/
Maybe is easier to accede to this university if you are foreign because the selectivity criteria is not as hard as the other public medschools.

JGDLB, sorry but I'm not very good yet with this forum and the private messaging feature. I found the message you sent me. I'll attempt to reply to you privately as well...don't hold your breath. It may take me a few tries.

Thank you for your great information. This is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for.

By the way, it's kind of funny, but I almost went to Pamplona this year for the Fiesta de San Fermin (yes, to run with the bulls!!). I had a group of five people that were going to come with me, but they were too busy with work and couldn't make it (yeah, right...chickens). I couldn't go this year because I'm taking summer classes to fulfill pre-medical prerequisites. Maybe next year...

They are having a basque festival in Elko Nevada the first weekend in July and they are having a running with the bulls. It ain't Pamplona but it will be fun!

Nice site! I find it hilarious that they're so "honest". Instead of the manly "Running with the bulls" they say it like it really is: "Running *from* the bulls". Like my buddy said, you don't have to be the fastest runner at Pamplona, all you have to do is not be the slowest.
