Honestly, there is no reason to put so many .'s after your sentences and topic titles, they will be read.

Most school's websites will have the info, some won't. Keep an eye out for 'Enter class statistics' or something that looks similar.

I can't believe anyone didn't think of the simplest solution to it all:

Medical School Admissions Requirement (MSAR) book that may be ordered from the AAMC website or Amazon.

The US news book also has how many interviewed, then accepted, which is helpful to someone who may wildly speculating about themselves, post interview.

I thought of that, but most people like free things 😎

Can always goto a Barnes and Noble and just check the stats out over a cup of starbucks

Then they should go to their advising office, school library, nearest medical library, or career center and see if there is a copy of the MSAR there. 😀 😀

Our medical library and main library always carry copies of that book. 😀

Good idea. We have a barnes and noble with a starbucks in it. How convenient!

I know that there is a thread here on stats for EVERY med school. Someone was kind enough to post # applied, # interviewed, # accepted and further broke it down for instate vs. out of state....really helped me in gauging my chances once I got an interview.

It should show up if you use the search function and use the words "all applied" or something like that.

HTH

thanks everybody

Barnes and Noble is not a library, I don't know why they put up with this. Seriously, what is another $25 at this point?

No but they do have tables and stuff set up for people to read there. So I don't tend to think they really care. The cafe and the tables in the back are actually set up for people to read in the store if they wish to do so.

Just in case you're still looking...its under the sticky post up top under "useful links for applicants".....under #5. Interviews its letter d I think.

It's from 2001 stats so not as helpful but give you an idea of the schools' historical selection process.

Because they know that if they allow people to sit around they'll be able to make a lot on the cafe.

Seriously. Plus Barnes and Nobles does more then just sell books. They have events there all the time where they host different authors coming in to speak, or school related events in relation to school board members and teachers coming there for different events that they help host. They even reserve the back area where the tables are to other events like book clubs, etc.

At least, this is true of the Tampa B&N in which I study all the time.

The children's section also has chairs for story time and what not. A lot of bookstores are designed to be more then merely another store, but rather to have the effect of a place where one can meet up with others just as one would at a coffee shop.

Well that is true. Did you ever notice how their coffee actually costs a little bit more than if you just get it at a regular Starbucks? (Which is usually a short walk anyways).

Heh. Barnes and Noble. Borders. They stink. 👎 Anybody going to Portland needs to check out Powells. They rule! And if you're not able to get there in person, google them; you will not be disappointed. (I think the website is just powells.com, but I'm not 100% positive.) Absolute heaven for bibliophiles.

I have ordered from them online before. I actually ended u preturning the book...but the service was good. I like the way Borders organizes things in their store much better than Barnes and Noble, I'm not sure how they do it exactly, but it seems to make things easy to find.

I don't think we have a Powells in Florida. So I guess I'll have to stick with B&N and Borders.

Oh well. I did check out the website you gave and it worked. I don't like ordering things online though, if I don't have to.

I like Borders's organization better too. But I go to B&N to sit at their tables and study cuz I like the atmosphere better then the library. I also like their selection of MCAT books better then Borders since they carry Ek stuff and Borders does not. However, for actually buying non MCAT related books, I like Borders better because it is easier to find things in their store then in B&N. At least, this is true of the Borders vs. B&N in Tampa near where I live. Where my parents live the B&N is better and bigger then the Borders.

No, you wouldn't have one in Florida. They are only in Portland as far as I know. They are the largest independent bookseller in the country. They have rare and out of print as well as used books. And if they don't have something, they will find it for you-- no matter how obsolete it is. They also have great service. Oregon has no sales tax, and until recently, they also offered free shipping. (I guess they were losing too much $ though, a few years ago they changed this. Now they only offer free shipping on orders of over $50.) Seriously though. If there is a book that you are having trouble finding, or you want a used copy, they are a GREAT resource. It's actually a good thing that I don't live in Portland now. Me + a huge building with four stories of every type of book imaginable = empty bank account. 🙂

Oh ok. I'll have to keep them in mind if I do any online orders in the future. 👍
