Medical Univ. of Ohio Secondary

Hi all:

After waiting several months since my amcas was complete, I finally wrote medical univ of ohio (meduohio) whether they would offer me secondary applications. They apparently emailed me on August 12th, but I never received that email. So, with an apology, they emailed me again and asked me to complete their secondary.

Looking at the MSAR book, they take 36 non-residents (total class size 140), their median GPA is around 3.6.

I am a little hesitant to send my secondary because I feel like I have very little chance. My GPA is well below their avg. and my MCAT is also a bit below their avg.

I am a non-trad. student, I will have excellent extracurricular and recommendation letters and my pre-med course grades are very good. But my overall GPA is not.

Anyone at MCO or applying there..please let me know if you have any advice.
I would just hate to waste 80 bucks when I could use that money to buy many bottles of wine (cheap wine!).

What state are you from? I would say to apply to them - you've got a better shot than at most state schools as an out-of-stater. I also think that we've got more like 30%-35% OOS in our class, even though they told us initially that they'd only take 25%. They're really big on diversity, so if you've got something moderately interesting to say about that in your secondary that will really help. I'm in my first year there (I'm from CA) and my GPA was WAY below their average, but my MCAT was higher. I ended up getting an outright acceptance from them even though I interviewed late. I think the classes and the way the school is set up is really great for the most part, but their admin could use a little help. I would stay on top of your application with them and make sure they have everything.

Bottles of wine? Aren't you fancy. I would spend that money on a box - Franzia, you've kept me warm on many a-cold winter's night. I hope you looked at this: http://www.meduohio.edu/med/pdfs/brochure.pdf, if for no other reason than all of the pics look like negatives and are perfect for this halloween season. There's really no content here though.
Jokes aside, I am applying there as an out of state resident, as well. I would apply there, were I you. (wow, that was poorly written, wasn't it?) They screen for secondaries, so you made it this far. Your ECs and letters may take you further than you think. And at $80 it is expensive, but not prohibitive.
