I have recently graduated from college with a master degree in medical biotechnology and I was doing research on the influence of hypoxia on different types of cancer cells.

Now I started to work in the Oncological Hospital at the Information Point, because I wanted so badly to have contact with patients and I wanted to work in the hospital (I am working 1 month).
I was thinking about PhD in cancer research (but it is mostly work in the laboratory without contact with ppl, patients). I'm 24 yo. I need to work now to earn money for living but also every day I want to cry cuz I always wanted to be a doctor. Now I am so happy that I am working in the hospital, but this work is not a challenge for me.

Now I need to decide if I want to work in the research (earning money, travels) or to start medicine (taking a loan, dream).

I have a question. Do u regret your time studying medicine and having no money to travel, buying a car, being independent and financially free? Don't you prefer to work now making money and enjoy life, when you are young?

Worked in research like you and then Medicine. No regrets! If continuing research and earning a salary is important to you, look into MD/PhD programs! They typically pay a stipend comparable to a lab tech salary for the entire time in med+grad school (typically 7 years). An MD/PhD in my lab advised me to only apply MD/PhD if you absolutely love research and want to run a lab one day. Otherwise the extra work/time is not worth the small salary. It's better to just get MD done and move on!

It seems from your post that English may not be your first language. Would you have to apply as an IMG?

It's called delayed gratification. You sacrifice your 20s and early earning potential in order to be a doctor. Your compensation is much higher after training than staying as a lab tech but may or may not catch up once you factor in years of lost wages during training. Ultimately, if you want to make money and travel now then stay where you are. But if you "want to cry" everyday because you're not a doctor then maybe you should bite the bullet and apply. Most students take out full cost of living loans anyway so you don't have to work during med school.

There's no reason you can't work for a few years, save money, and build your extracurricular experiences, with the goal of eventually applying to med school. There's no rush. And if you don't get used to spending money on travel and cars, you don't miss them.

That is true, English is not the first language cuz I am living in Poland and speaking only polish in my country. When it comes to PhD I would like to do this in US, but medicine in my country, cuz it is for free. The thing is that medicine here in Poland it is 6 years long and it is really hard to get to (around 3000 ppl fighting for 1 place at med school).

[you can correct my language mistakes] 🙂

You will not find many in this forum familiar with the specifics of applying to Poland's medical schools, but you might check out SDN's International Medicine Forums to see if there is anything there that might help you at: International Medical Forums | Student Doctor Network
