What's up,

Upon seeing some MSAR data, I've noticed that a high %age of accepted applicants have medically related work. I volunteer in my nearby hospital, but is paid clinical work looked at more favorably? Should I be doing both?

Thanks

As long as you have meaningful clinical experience, you'll be fine.

You are only going to get to do a limited amount as a volunteer. As a paid employee...while you may be doing low level stuff...you will still likely be touching patients. I always advocate doing paid work as opposed to just volunteering. As an undergrad I was a phlebotomist for 3 years...and for 5 years since graduating ive been working as a blood banker/clinical lab technologist...so I am somewhat of a career changer. But my experiences have been far beyond anything you would see volunteering.
