I have a meeting scheduled with a local vet tomorrow. A friend of mine is one of his techs and when she mentioned that I was interested in going to vet school he told her he would be really interested in meeting me. Apparently he has been a mentor for a few vet school hopefuls in the past and he really loves helping prevet students! I'm so nervous! Any suggestions on questions that I should ask upon our first meeting tomorrow? I've done some research and I know that he graduated from my IS, which is my #1 choice (for obvious reasons). Unfortunately he just hired two new techs so employment is all but completely out of the question. I just hope I don't make a total ass out of myself on our first meeting.

I would bring a resume, and your transcript (an unofficial copy printed off the internet will suffice, especially because it is probably too short notice to get an official copy). I'd first start by introducing yourself, highlighting your main experiences, explaining why you want to be a vet, and discussing the schools you're most interested in. Then, you can ask him what he sees as your strengths and weaknesses, and how he would suggest improving on them. If all else fails you can ask him about himself and if he has any general advice. Good luck - I hope you get lots out of this meeting 🙂

If the meeting is going really well, you can always ask to shadow/volunteer. And hey, if you make a great impression and one of his new techs isn't working out so well, he may think of you as a replacement. You could always casually mention at the end that if he ever has an opening or needs an extra hand, you'd be more than happy to provide it!
