213 Step 1, taking Step 2 on 7/3. Honors in surgery and EM, HP IM and Neuro. Have a PhD and a few remote publications. Will do more research 4th year I hope.

I'm hoping to return to the NE. UMass Worcester and Baystate are my top choices. Not sure if feasible. Help me with my 30 programs or direct me to the best ranking list? Struggling.

I work at Baystate. PM me if you would like.

Prepare well for Step 2 CK and aim for 250+. Worcester and Baystate aren't particularly competitive, but with a high CK score you'll have a better chance at other programs in MA and in the NE

Odds are in your favor. I know the mean for the exam has changed over the year, but 213 isnt that far off from the mean if i remember correctly.

Baystate probably more likely than Umass. I would also apply to BU, St. Elizabeths, Tufts, Maine, U. VT

Would you say the same for DOs? I know its a different ballgame

The recent national averages are 229 on Step 1 and 242 on Step 2 CK.

Thx! Thats a higher number than I thought, but I still think the OP will likely match into one of those programs. Id also add Uconn and Westchester to the list and possibly NY (brooklyn) programs

For a DO with a 213 I dont think that those programs are out of the realm of possibility. But compared to an MD youd have two (minor) strikes against you as opposed to just the low step score

I am a current resident at UMass. You should definitely inquire about the residency program if you are looking to return to NE! Applicants are looked at for much more than their step scores, having a PhD and good clinical grades will set you apart. We have a great group of people, both in terms of residents and attendings. When the people you work with are wonderful, it makes residency training so much easier! Feel free to send me a private message if you would like more information.
