1-propanol vs 1-pentanol

which one has higher melting point?

I thought propanol has higher melting point because it is smaller so it can form more intermolecular hydrogen bonds...
but answer says 1-pentanol is higher melting point..
what am I thinking wrong??
Also can you tell me which one has higher boiling point?
thanks.

Propanol has shorter chain length than Pentanol.

For melting points: the higher the chain lengths, higher boiling point, higher melting point and higher density.

From my understanding both can form intermolecular h-bonds since they're both alcohol, but considering their chain lengths, pentanol will have higer m.p.

I'm guessing you got this from a practice test. Don't mix it up with the solubility question "which one is more soluble in water" which will make propanol the right answer vs pentanol.
