Would memorizing (understanding why the answer is the right answer) every question in these three qbanks be indicative of doing well (say >240)? I know it's not a guarantee of anything but is this a good/legitimate strategy?

Yes forms of studying are a good practice before taking exams.

I'd recommend sticking to two - UWorld and one of the others.

However, your question is confusing. Memorization =/= comprehension. Memorization is useful for areas such as anatomy and pharmacologic mechanisms. Comprehension is key for physiology. And so on.

First, three Qbanks is WAY overkill. It'll empty your wallet and you'll be spreading yourself out too thin. All you need is UWorld. I tried out Kaplan, RX, etc etc but none of these hold a candle to UW. Doing UW properly will set you up nicely.

What i mean by properly is to appreciate that UW is as much a teaching tool as it is a testing one. Incorporating 10-15 questions a day on tutor mode, and combing through the explanations, while you are studying will teach you a LOT over the course of several months. It slightly frustrates me when other people tell me oh imma keep uworld till dedicated study time and then do 10 blocks a day. No. No sane human being can do 10 blocks a day (~450 questions) without going crazy.

Second. As @Dave89 said, memorization =/= learning/comprehension. You can memorize stuff like the branches of the ascending aorta, but you can't memorize all those pathophys/physiology questions with arrows going up and down. You need to learn that stuff. Drawing that stuff out on paper/whiteboard/chalkboard can help.

My 2 cents! Hope it helped haha. I wrote some tips for Step 1 on my blog. Feel free to check it out 🙂 (see signature below)
