Hello,

I am applying to med school this cycle, but I am also applying to a few national scholarships (such as rhodes, fulbright, etc.). If I receive any of these awards, I will for sure accept them and defer any med school acceptance.

However, for med schools that ask about what have I been doing during my gap year, should I mention that I am applying to these awards? I am afraid that adcoms may think something like "this applicant could take a deferral, so let's just reject him and give it to someone who won't defer." Or will they like people who are trying to pursue prestigious scholarship, and I should mention it?? PLEASE HELP!

Saying you spent your gap year applying for a scholarship is similar to studying for the MCAT. It's better if you have people-facing activities, especially service-oriented activities.

Thank you! Yes, I have a lot of activities to mention and applying for these awards is just a side note. If it doesn’t add anything then I won’t mention it.
