I just got a call back from Mercy DPT for an interview on 2/15 !!

I know that there is a group interview and writing sample. Other than that I am in the dark.

Are there any Mercy DPT students/ applicants with tips/ advice for interview?

I have an interview scheduled on the same day too... Feb. 15th at 11am.
well, I also heard that it's a group interview and there will be an onsite essay (according to the Mercy college website)...
hey, do you know what the onsite essay is going to be like by any chance??
what else grad schools did you apply to? did you apply to the SUNY Downstate as well?? I did, and I am still not hearing anything from them...
anyways, best luck with your interview 🙂

I'm still waiting on my call...... Wish you both the best of luck on the 15th!!!

Please share news after the interview.

Did you finish all of your prereqs?

It was a group interview, there were two people asking questions to three of us. one of the two women was Dr. Hyland, the program director.

I don't clearly remember the questions but I'll tell you what you have to know for the interview.
1. know your weekness and what are you going to do with it to complete the DPT program successfully??(something like this)
2. why did you choose to be a PT other than nurse, doctor...etc.
3. tell me about yourself
4. If you have to choose one, which field of physical therapy do you think the hardest for you? and why? (Geniaric, pediatric, acute treatment, amputation, home PT...etc)
5. why Mercy college???

after that there was a group question asked to three of us, and we had to discuss and come up with answers. (what are the three traits that are needed for a good team?)

and after that, we went to upstairs and had an onsite essay. the question was 'why is the communication important for grad students and proffesionals?' 40minutes were given for the essay. and we had to type on a computer.

goodluck! and let me know how yours goes~

@ coolseodpt

I guess we had similar experiences. I was in the 10 AM group.

I was one of three candidates being interviewed by two professors from the program.

Questions I can remember offhand:
-why PT?
-why Mercy's DPT program?
-name one of you weaknesses, and how you would improve upon it?
Are there any settings/ patient populations that you would have trouble working with?

I had the same group question and writing exercise.

I think my interview went fairly well. The only thing that was a little unsettling was that the interview was "closed file"

@NYCPT: I finished all my prereqs a while ago

Oh and they said that applicants should hear word by the end of March!

Yay!!! Congrats to you both for getting through the interview. I wasn't expecting a group interview. How did you find the prcoess? Did you feel that you were able to shine with two other candidates in the room?

Would you say it was a formal interview or did you feel at ease?

Did you leave feeling exicted about the program?

I'm still waiting.......

@NYCPT

I read previously that it would be a group interview so I was prepared for that fact. While their were naturally nerves during the process, I felt that I was able to say somethings about myself that helped me standout amongst the candidates. Don't get me wrong, that is nothing against the other candidates as I felt that they both seemed not only intelligent but also qualified for the program.

I would say the interview was formal but only because they had a list of predetermined questions and that it was closed-file.

@coolseodpt

If you don't mind me asking, who was the other interviewer? Was it Dr. Ruth Hansen?

Hi,
I am currently a junior at Stony Brook University looking to pursue Mercy College's DPT program. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on what GPA got them an interview and/or accepted. Cumulative as well as science would be great. Thank you in advance!

@ coolseodpt. No letters yet still waiting. When I interviewed, the faculty said that they would be interviewing until mid march and that decisions should come in by the end of the month

@chris62804. Personally I had a 3.5 GPA overall/science. I believe that Mercy interviews that top 80-100 students with a GPA of over 3.0 (for your last 30 science credits including the prereqs). Also, I think that if you have a 3.6+, students can apply for early decision as of 12/1

I hope that helped.

@ Arsenal8884 Thank you for the response. Did you end up attending Mercy? If so, what do you think of the program (education/difficulty..and just the fact it is weekends only). Also, do you know if they weigh certain pre-reqs more than others? Will i have a chance if I have two Cs in pre-reqs? This is what I look like thus far, should I retake of do you think those are solid enough grades for an interview.

Chris,

Since I interviewed this Feb, I am still waiting for word back from Mercy as to attending their program.

While I would send a email to Mercy directly, It was of my UNDERSTANDING that students were ranked based upon the GPA of their prereqs or final 30 science credits taken.

Unfortunately I cannot speak with any reliability in regards to your other questions. You would have to call Mercy directly for that kind of information. I don't want to be that poster who goes around pretending my own opinion is fact, so I will leave it at that. However if you wish for further advice feel free to PM me, and I will be glad to help.

She did say "by the end of March" right? I thought I heard it wrong since I'm not getting any letter yet.
I'm getting a little tired of checking my mail box every 6 hours...
can you email me when you get it?
[email protected]
Ill do the same if you give me your email address
thanks
good luck to us all!

Does anyone know how they will contact? Is it by phone or mail?

@ coolseodpt

I feel your pain man. Because I was feeling anxious I gave MErcy a call. They said that they just finished interviewing people and that they will be trying to get everything out by April 4th. I guess we can expect news a couple of days after the 4th.

Also I will let you know about my results via email. I just don't want to put my email up on a public forum bc it is my name. If I can find a way to pm it I will be sure to

@NYCPT

I have no idea how we will be reached. I was reached by phone for an interview. Basically If the number reads 914 or 212 just pick it up and hope for good news!

Thanks for the update!!! Since they said they will try to get everything out by the 4th, I will assume they will contact by mail.

I'm surprised they were still interviewing!!!!

we gotta keep our fingers crossed right?
just out of curiousity and if you don't mind me asking, what else schools did you apply to? and will you go to Mercy if you get accepted???
I applied to SD as well but not hearing anything, not even an interview invitation. so I guess Ill go to Mercy if I get accepted.

@coolseodpt

It appears that we are basically in the same position. Hopefully we will get some god news this week!!!

Like you, If I get into Mercy, I am going there.

@NYCPT

I was little surprised but kind of saw it coming with the way the economy is toady. I assumed a lot more people were going to be applying this year.

Crickets!!!! Has anyone heard anything? I assume not, but.......

NYCPT beat me to it. Congrats. Hopefully we will all be getting good letters this week.

@ nycpt & arsenal, thank you, you all should get one too just be patient with that. I think they have a big problem with mail delivery system. I got the letter a couple days ago but the mail says that the date they sent was April 4th. it took about two weeks from the school to Brooklyn! So just be patient, u will get it. 🙂 cheers! I got rejected from sd.

Congrats on getting into the Mercy DPT program. Im actually transfering to Mercy to complete my pre-reqs. I only need Chem II and Dev Psych. I hope to apply for the Fall 12 program. Cool, how where your overall grades and do you have any pointers for the interview

hi, sorry for late reply. well my overall gpa was about 3.5. however, I don't think you will have any problem with the gpa if yours is higher than 3.1~3.2. Applying for the program while taking some of the pre-reqs over there is brilliant. I believe some of my classmates did that too. if you wanna impress your interviewer, first of all, be ready for the obvious interview questions you can find on the website. such as, "why do you wanna be a PT, why not a doctor or a nurse?", "what do you wanna achieve as a PT student", "why did you choose Mercy College". etc. just to give you a heads up, if you have the last question, DO NOT answer it like "because it's a weekend program, and it fits to my schedule" that was the most horrible answer I've ever heard.
when you are ready for the typical, common, obvious interview questions for DPT program, then, start digging your interviewers and the program you are applying to. Try to find some researches that the faculties of the program have done recently, read them, and tell the interviewers about them at the interview when you get a chance. Know the history of the program, all the numbers, statistics, such as "since when the program is accredited?", "whats the percentage of the students who pass the national PT exam?", etc. they will not ask these things at the interview, but if you tell them all of these non-stop when you get a chance (such as the moment when interviewers ask "is there anything that you wanna ask or tell us about??") you will see their pupils dilating.

I am waiting to hear back from mercy now- for the fall 2012 cycle. I took my GRE early december and I am not sure if they got in yet but my application is on file. How long after you completed the applicationd did you hear back? my GPA is 3.2 and prereq GPA is ~3.0 do you think i have a shot?
Also I see that they only look at your last 30 credits. My last 30 credit GPA is a 3.7 but this is not including all prereqs that I took earlier. Do they look at the prereqs in addition to the last 30 credits or included in them. The prereqs alone are over 25 credits

What were your GRE scores? for those who were accepted for this past fall semester. Assuming you're still visiting this forum.

Hi
Just wanted to find out some info on Mercy...to those who are in the program...how is it over there? Do they meet every other weekend and would you say that there's a lot of self teaching that goes on? is the work load alot for the week you don't meet? Just wanted to get a feel for the program to see if it was the right fit for me. Also, I would like to keep my job that I have now...I work from home full time but regular 9 to 5 hours and I have a family. I'd like to not take out as much loans as possible so I'm wondering if maybe I can still work and go to school at the same time or at least for as much as possible until its time to really quit. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.
Thank You

Thanks for your advice!
I am so excited. I look foward to start my education at Mercy College DPT Program.

Hi,
Is anyone interviewing at Mercy Feb 4 2015 at 4? I am a little nervous for the group interview. From reading the posts above from previous years it does not seem too bad, but still nerve racking.

Hello, I have a interview at Mercy college coming up and I was wondering if anyone can give feedback on their experience? What type of questions? Is there a writing sample? Etc

Hey,
Is anyone interviewing at Mercy on 1/6/16? I was told it was a group interview and about an hour long...any tips/suggestions??

Hey All,
Sounds like everyone is pretty interested in this program. I am trying to dig a little deeper for some more information on the school. There is not too much out there regarding school reputation, ranking, incentive to attend. I am very interested in attending their weekday/weekend DPT program but was curious what current, future, and past students had to say about their experiences so far. Thanks!

I interviewed on March 9, 2016. No news. Has anybody gotten in or rejected?

I also interviewed that day, they told our group at the end they would have decisions out around the 16th. I thought March but nothing yet.
