Hello SDN community ! Does anybody know of any Merit-Based Scholarships for Dental Schools that are regularly awarded? I'm thinking of scholarships along the lines of the Dean's Scholarship at Penn that is frequently mentioned here - or anything really as I know that award covers 1/2 tuition or something along those lines.

I was just wondering if anyone knows off hand which schools give out awards (i.e. 1-10+K per year) and how you would go about applying for them.

Thanks so much - I value all of your input!

You don't really apply to them. If they think you are worthy, they will give it to you.

UOP gives a maximum of 15K / yr or something if they REALLY like you. That is one I know because one of the doctors I shadowed got this scholarship when he went to UOP.

I've heard of an offer of $10K/yr from Louisville and $30K/yr from Case. I don't really believe the Case guy who claimed he had that though. Seems off.

Thanks guys - I also vaguely remember something about Temple and Tufts giving out ~ $10K per year to students that meet certain GPA/DAT levels (i.e. 3.7GPA + 20 TS/AA, for instance - of course these are just made up numbers). Can anyone else confirm that - or has anyone heard of the Board Of Regents Scholarships for the UC schools?

UCs are broke. I doubt they give any scholarships for Med/Dent nowadays.

I remember reading about the UCSF med school administrators grumbling that they couldn't get certain candidates because Harvard and Wash U etc. were able to offer better financial aid to those students.

I have heard of full scholarships from really really old threads. I don't know if they exist anymore.

I saw a lot of posts about UoP giving out 30k to even 60k scholarships if they REALLY like you. But this was back in 2009-10.

nyu offers one full paid scholarship on merit and life experiences;

penn has deans scholarship which gives you 50% off tuition. quite easy to get from what i hear with deans it is still 205K tuition though lol.

I think UCSF does offer scholarships, if you meet a certain gpa or something. some ppl speculate that UCSF doles out the scholarships only to minorities. Either way I think it offers 12.5K per year. Not that it matters lol. the UC Board of Regents just approved a 10% tuition increase for UCSF tuition each year for next 3 years. So basically in 2013 UCSF tuition will go up 10%.. then another additional 10% in 2014, etc.:scared:

UCLA offers like a total of 15K in scholarships (Regents+Deans). i think if u meet certain gpa requirement. However it is NOT 15k per year. just a one time thing.

Thanks for your help everyone, although it's a little disheartening to hear this news. It's unfortunate that there is so little out there for us!

NYU also offers alot of smaller scholarships. But...NYU is one of the most expensive dental school and NYC is one of the most expensive city to live in.

Well if this still holds true lets :xf: and hope for the best!

Marquette does. Many students get scholarships based on merit. They are not 4 years though. Every year they get re-assessed. And the students with the best standings at the school get the scholarships.

USC has a full ride scholarship and many smaller scholarships that can reach up to 40-50 thousand a year for 4 years. They can be a lifesaver at this expensive school.

Harvard med maybe. Harvard dental was pretty stingy with their money from my experience
