so here's my position...I had asked the PD at the Path program i'm rotating at if i could do a presentation for the staff during the morning conference sometime next week.

instead, he said that i could do one Wednesday....THIS WEDNESDAY!!!!! less than 48 hours from now!!!!

so i haven't done anything yet!!! it's gonna be a power point presentation. I've decided to pursue something relating to Pathological Properties of Metastatic tumors (General)....

i *tactfully* decided this, since this is a topic that ISN'T very well understood by most staff members and I felt that it would provide me with the most opportunity to actually provide some INSIGHT to the staff at this Path. department....ahem....and so that i don't look like a complete donkey up there presenting a paper with such limited time to prepare.

Does anyone know any good online resources for this kind of material?? i'm looking for ANYTHING interesting/new/developmental/research-oriented/insightful relating to Metastasis as a general concept. I'm not gonna focus on one organ system in general, but I may provide examples.

ANYTHING WILL HELP!! this might be my hopes for a residency at this place on the line!!!

*slaps forehead*

i can't believe the situations i get myself into....

Not sure what level you're shooting for. Scientific American put out a series of basic overviews a few years ago. There was one called "How Cancer Spreads" by Erkki Ruoslahti which was pretty basic but an excellent overview. Could be a place to start. I tried finding a link but all I could find is this one from the same series.

Good luck!

excellent! thanks so much for the link Crepitus.

i don't wanna make it *TOO* Molecular Biology oriented.....i still wanna make it "practical" for a Pathologist to listen to.

that link is pretty cool...keep em coming! just til tomorrow at least!

molecular biology is not a bad thing.

In fact, most academic pathologists have a pretty good handle on it and a mol bio talk wouldn't be over their heads.

any thoughts?

Boy you picked a difficult and broad topic for such a short notice. The newest version of Robin's I believe has some stuff you might use. You could try a journal search on pubmed for something like pathogenesis of metastasis, but may give you too many articles to sift through.

good luck

I think in such a short time, you'd better search some nice review articles from PubMed. Just Read journals whhich have high impact factor and present the recent developments. I believe molecular biology is a cool thing for pathologist. In fact, most pathologists like that and molecular pathology (diagnostics) is a hot area now, particullary if you are in a good path program.

This is one review article appeared in recent issue of Oncogene,

hope it will help.

thanks you guys, for all your help...BUT IT GOT CANCELLED! lol

Some special Forensics Doctor wanted to present tomorrow morning, so my "short notice" presentation got bumped to next week. *thank god!*

thanks anyways though, i will still use some of your resources, although i *might* try to make this presentation a bit more clinical than just scientific to keep the interests of the residents, etc...

CHEERS!

Rirriri--

How timely! We're having a Dr. Cutter (I think that's his name) from Harvard give a talk on Tumor Metastasis this Friday night! I was planning on attending anyway, so if I can get any information that you might be able to use, I'll pass it along! Glad to hear your talk got moved!

nice Brian!!

feel free to let me know if there is any good info in that lecture on Friday! it MUST be good, i'm sure.

cheers!

whoops! His name is Dr. Bruce Zetter. Just wanted to correct myself!

i did my presentation today!!!

i changed the topic to AMYLOIDOSIS and the presentation went SUPERB!!!! i was heavily complimented on it and I overheard many of the Attendings talking about how good it was. All the residents also said it was one of the best student presentations they had seen.

one of my best skills is actually presentation....i always feel really comfortable and in control when i'm presenting in front of more people.

WOO HOO!

just to remind you, i'm doing my Path. elective at my #1 choice......so this should be VERY interesting relating to the impact it has on my chances here.

the underdog strikes again!!

thanks for all your help and suggestions.....and thanks to Brian Pavlovitz for those articles you had sent me...even though I didn't use them in the end, they would have been very useful had I not switched the topic.

CHEERS!

Congrats!

Best thing you have done to increase your chances is that rotation. We are all rooting for you.

Glad to hear the presentation went well!

And, I am always glad to help out a future colleague 😉

Excellent job!!
