Methyl to Carboxlic acid???

Toluene (benzene ring with a methyl group on top), is oxidized with K2Cr2O7/H3O+

Result is the CH3 group has been ox. to COOH.

Is that right?

Yep, as long as there is a H it will oxidize to COOH with KMnO4, chromate, dichromate,...
 
Just remember that the Hydrogen needs to be in the benzylic position.
