Wondering about the open house. Anyone going to the morning or afternoon session? I’m going to the morning session. Will they be holding interviews and if anyone attended this before, what kinds of topics will they go over? Will there be any discussions held with those who attend?

for current students, how’s the program, what do you like the most about it and was it how you expect it to be after attending open house? Do you have any suggestions of what you wish you had done prior to starting the program? Also, If you’re a first year student how has it been so far?

I believe the open house is basically an info session and Non-evaluative. I am going to the afternoon session!

I’m going to the morning session! There are no interviews it’s more like an open house to my understanding. I’m super intrigued by the program specifically the curriculum so I’m very excited to learn more!

It's an amazing program. When I attended the open house I was enamored by the unique curriculum design, the wonderful professors, and the diversity. As a current student, I further appreciated the curriculum design. It breaks down one or two focuses for each module/semester as opposed to the traditional model of taking a variety of different courses in a semester. Though you're still being inundated with information, this approach makes the material much more digestible since everything you're learning ties into each other.

My advice would be to learn all of the bones and muscles (origins, insertions, innervations, functions) of the body prior to starting class so that you don't have to devote time to learning that.

This is super helpful information thank you! What system do you use to select clinical rotations? Are you exposed to cadavers at all or is it just virtual? Can you describe what your typical day of class/week of class is like? Because it’s one module at a time how are times/labs arranged is it the same schedule every week or does it change?

No problem! So for the integrated clinical internships, we don't have a choice as to where we are placed. They choose where to set us based on where we live and if we'd thrive in it. Don't let that scare you, most if not all of MGH affiliates are top-notch hospitals and clinics!

As for cadavers, we use them on rare occasions. We use the cadaver lab in Harvard, and we only used it twice in the time I've been a student here. We also had one lab day at this Fall where we got to study and interact with brains and spinal cord.

A typical week involves a morning class and an afternoon class, with one half day a week where we go to our clinical sites. Class times are usually from 8-11am and 1-4pm, or 8-11am and 2-5pm; and clinical site times are 8-12pm once a week (no morning class.) It's generally the same schedule every week, but there are some slight variations in time and place so it's good to always check the syllabus. Also each module lasts about 4 weeks, and at the end of that you take an exam and a practical. In the summer semester we had two modules, and in the Fall and Spring semesters we have three. Finally, at the end of each semester you take a comprehensive final exam and practical encompassing everything you learned during that semester.

I should note that for both the 14 week and year long internship at the 3 year, you do get a choice as to where you would like to be placed. The 14 week internship is unpaid, but you do get paid for the year long internship.

I'll be attending the open house for the afternoon session, and have been told to treat it sort of like an informal interview. I'm extremely excited to see the campus and talk to current students and faculty!

Informal interview?! Can anyone else elaborate? Any questions they’ll ask?

Sorry just both nervous and excited

Just act professional and use this open house to really try to get a feel for the program. Ask yourself if you can see yourself going here. Like they said, this won't have an influence on your application decision. But it's a great opportunity to learn much more about the program.

Safe travels to all of you coming to the open house!

Thank you! You’ve been very helpful With all this I formation and I feel a bit better

Hi! I wasn't able to travel to the open house, I would love to hear how you all felt about the school after attending!

I was super impressed at the open house! I really like their curriculum and think I would do well with the active learning style. The program being connected to the Partners Healthcare system is awesome, they have contracts with the best hospitals and clinical sites in the Boston area. The potential of a paid internship would help offset some of the cost too. I also got the impression that the students have a lot of fun and hangout with each other a lot outside of school which is important to me. I was very interested in the program before attending the open house and now I think it's my top choice!

They Emailed a recording of the session. I recommend to watch it to determine if this is a great fit for you.

Same!! I was attracted to their integrated clinical approach and the IMPACT center originally. Highly recommend watching the live stream. Getting that in-depth look at the program made MGH my top pick too! Fingers crossed everyone!

Also just got an acceptance! No scholarship though so I am not sure if Ill attend. Does anyone have any insight on how much the year long paid internship would help offset the cost of tuition?

The year-long paid internship is a huge factor to me. I've never seen that before in a PT school...most of them expect you to handle finances on your own.
They didn't say much other than that financial aid will be in touch in the next couple days with more information. Will keep you guys updated!

Just got my acceptance too! Think I'm not going to accept it, though, since it's pretty far, and I'd prefer to stay closer to home. Hopefully that will open up a spot for someone else!

That's funny, they sent out acceptances on this exact date last year for my cohort haha.

Congrats to all of you who got accepted! If you choose to attend, I'll be looking forward to meeting you at MGH IHP in June 🙂

You will get paid about 1/4 or 1/2 of a starting PT salary during the internship prior to getting licensed. After you get licensed in January, I believe you will get paid the starting rate of a PT. It depends on where you are placed for your clinicals.

Also accepted yesterday! No mention of a scholarship though so I’m not sure if I’ll attend

They emailed me with my scholarship info today! MGH is where I'm going!!!
Good luck to all - they said last year, they pulled a significant amount off the waitlist after the January 17 deposit deadline.

You guys are ALL qualified to be PTs - don't lose faith!

I wonder how many people got scholarships? Does anyone know?

Hi everyone! I got accepted with a scholarship and that's where I'll be going! For anyone wondering, I went to the open house and took notes- they said while they can't gauge how many spots will free up, last year they accepted around 35 off the waitlist

I was accepted also and just submitted my deposit! No scholarship but am excited to be attending IHP. Does anyone happen to know if there is a Facebook group for the incoming class?

Good luck to everyone who is deciding which program is the best for them!

I searched on Facebook but haven't seen any recent groups for our year.

I have chosen to decline my offer, hope this helps out someone on the waitlist!

Congrats to all! Such an exciting time! Has anyone been accepted off of the waitlist?

I chose to accept my offer after much thought because I didn't get the scholarship! But I am very excited!
