MGHIHP Open House Advice?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone have any advice on how to stand out at the MGH IHP open house?
Wear a Deadpool costume. Peacocking at its finest.

On a serious note, stand out how? I need specifics in order to answer your question.

MGH IHP is hosting an open house that consists of a campus tour and meeting faculty/current students. I believe they will not be hosting an actual formal interview and may only be asking us casual questions while we tour the campus. Although it seems casual, I was told that my application decision will be decided within the next month so I am wondering what I can do during this open house on Saturday to make my chances better.

MGH specifically said they do not use this event in considering your admission. It’s really an opportunity for you to get to know more about their program. But you can still make a good impression on the faculty and students that could carry forward if you do attend their program.

When there’s time to socialize, make use of it by talking to other prospective students, current students, and faculty members. I’d recommend reading their faculty bios and thinking of thoughtful questions to ask if you meet them at the open house. Also do your research on the program and come up with questions about topics that are important to you in deciding if MGH is the school you’d ultimately want to attend.

Did you enjoy the open house? I found it very informative! I hope I get accepted because I would love to be a student there!

I didn’t get to go but did they say anything about decisions?
Yes! So we'll find out whether we got accepted or not late December (assuming that they follow what they did last year, this should be shortly before Christmas, right around the 20th.)

If accepted, you'll find out if you get any merit based scholarships a week after your acceptance email.

Last year they sent me an acceptance in October it was weird

Yes I really enjoyed it! I'm even more nervous now because a few current students there told me that many of us will get rejected and waitlisted still. I am also hoping I get accepted, I really enjoyed learning about their program.

not that I know of but it was my second year applying maybe that is why
I will most likely be reapplying too if I do not get in. Any advice on how to strengthen your application/make yourself stand out more to MGH IHP the second time around?

Yeah the sad reality is that not everyone can get accepted. The chair of admissions did say that they received about 500 applications this cycle and that half of them were dropped due to not meeting the minimums. Since 70 students will be admitted to the program, that puts us at a 28% chance of getting in. Not terrible odds in my opinion.

I'd say retake any prerequisites that you got less than an A in and volunteer at more PT settings. Since MGH always accepts the highest grade for retaken courses you can drastically increase your pGPA just by retaking 2-3 courses over. This is what I will do if I don't get in this cycle. Also it will be smart for you to do so for financial reasons. If you have a pGPA above a 3.8, you really increase your chances of getting a merit based scholarship.

I am anxiously waiting for MGH IHP DPT decisions ahh
You and I both buddy! By next Friday (12/21) we will know. Last year they sent out decisions on 12/20, so we can expect it to happen around the same time this year. Definitely wouldn't be happening during the week of Christmas.

But man this anxiety is killing me :nailbiting:
