I don't know what type of information you are looking for but I had a friend who did the program and really enjoyed. Va hospitals can be great.

Well I got an interview call from there so I wanted some information on the program before I go for the interview.

Any information regarding the on call schedule, patient pool..etc?

I just got back from an interview there. Seems like a good program - they do a bit of everything. The interview panel was pretty nice. They asked about my clinical strengths and weaknesses etc. and then they tested my knowledge with silly questions. If they haven't yet sent you a brochure about the program, I've attached it to this post.

Good Luck!

What questions did they ask you to test your knowledge?

Warm weather year round and 10 minutes from South Beach. Tha's why they get a lot of apps, as well as a good program. One of my applicants withdrew from the match yesterday and accepted a position there. Can't blame her.

Does anyone know if the Miami VA lets you know by e-mail or only letter?

I thought they weren't sending out decisions until the 24th?
I just interviewed there yesterday.

It did seem like a good program

I believe they only take 4 residents. So if your friend got one already..then only 3 left

I got accepted there on November 24th.
As far as I know all acceptances have been sent out.

Does anyone know how many applicants they interview before accepting 4 of them?

Interview candidates have been selected and interview letters should be going out soon if they have not been sent out already.

I believe there are around 28-30 people being interviewed.

You are talking about gainesville right?

No. I'm talking about the Miami VA program.

Hey...
I did a GPR at Jackson Memorial Hospital last year-2008-2009. One of my boys was a resident at the VA and liked it alot-
The residents get to do a lot of dentistry including implant restorations, crown and bridge and perio surgeries-all things that the GPR at Jackson lacks-however Jackson memorial allows a tremendous exposure to surgery which was something I was very interested in and the reason i chose JMH over Miami VA-
hope this helps...and let me know if you have any other questions!👍

Miami VA has a well rounded program minus the surgical aspect. They share the clinic with 3rd and 4th year oral surgeons who rotate there for 3 month intervals. The OS guys perform all the implant placements and majority of tori removal/pre-pros etc. GPR residents do everything else....lots of rotary endo and prosth. Lots of extractions done side by side with oral surgeons. Hope this helps I was looking for a program with implant placement and this one does not.

Hi, did you just recently go for the interview? Who conducts the interview, and is it pretty standard? Thanks for your input regarding the program.

Yeah it's a pretty standard interview. Round table discussion about how awesome you are with a couple of dental questions thrown in there. Pretty laid back and nothing to stress too much about.

@neezy- hope you had a good time visiting us at the program.

And btw so you guys know- this program is now an AEGD not a GPR. No anestheisa or other hospital rotations- just a one month OS rotation.
Good luck to all those who interviewed.

Hi, Does anyone know if V.A Medical Center West Palm Beach offer any type of experience placing in implant?
I am looking right now for GPR/ AEGD in Florida... can anyone who went through this process share with me any tips and where to focus.
Thank you very much!

Anyone know anything about the Mt Sinai Med Center, Miami Beach FL residency?

Not on CODA accreditation website either. Is it an accredited program?

Hmmm so it might not actually exist. Sorry! Just saw that people had externed there from my school...

Btw, save for the big ASDA book, is there any place to find a list of all GPR's that are accredited?? I know of the ones that participate in Match, but that's it.

The CODA website which is part of the ADA lists all accredited residency programs, program directors, and when next site visit will occur.

Would you mind elaborating on the Jackson residency? What kind of o.s. stuff are you talking about - implant placements or more complex omfs-type or general surgery stuff? Also, how was the prosth/endo/cosmetic training? Thanks!🙂
