COA: 80k/year
Miami

Pros
  • 1 year pre-clinical
  • MD/MPH program allows me to get two degrees in four years (want to do public health research in the future)
  • Slightly higher ranked
  • Sooo many public health research opportunities
  • Really clicked with students and all of the deans at the school
  • Loved Miami as a city
  • Solid match list
Cons
  • Further away from home
  • High COA (due to cost of living in Miami and haven't heard about fin aid or scholarships)
  • First year of new curriculum
  • Want to match in the Northeast, so might not be the best for this
COA: 65k/year
Rutgers RWJ

Pros
  • Many connections to hospitals in Northeast which is where I want to match
  • Close to home, housing would be free and help with various household tasks
  • Very familiar with patient population and area
  • Loved the dean
Cons
  • My research interests don't align with what RWJ is known for
  • Not as many opportunities to engage with public health
  • Currently 2 year pre-clinical but might be changing
  • Did not like the students as much and felt that they weren't really enthusiastic about the school
Really stuck on this decision and would love any input!

A 2 year preclinical curriculum is so outdated, especially with Step being P/F now. Seems like Miami is a much better fit for you. I say for the extra 15k/yr, go for Miami!

At 15k a year difference, I’d say go with whatever school you’d be the happiest and at home. Seems like that is Miami, which also is the higher ranked school.
