Michael Jackson

There are at least some reports that his death was related to a fatal overdose of Demerol administered to him, maybe to relieve pain associated with his physical training for upcoming tour – can Demerol give a cardiac arrest and how much of an overdose would likely cause this? Also, why didn’t his cardiologist have access to a defibrillator, especially if he’s treating in-house? Would seem to be a wise investment…

I dunno why he wouldn't have had a defibrillator handy. Things happen...hindsight is 20/20.

whatever the problem was his heart just couldn't beat it

man, Im still sad abt this.. especially with that tour coming... I was all ready for watch the youtube footage of the shows...

well... I guess, the doctor might have intentionally OD'ed him since he escaped the place..

Let's just wait for the toxicology reports to return.
And celebrity or not, this was someone's life, let's make sure to keep all comments respectful 👍

Also, why didn’t his cardiologist have access to a defibrillator, especially if he’s treating in-house?

For the same reason he was trying to do CPR while his pt was still in bed 🙄

Tuned into radio this morning to learn about how many more people have been killed in Iran, and how far Taliban had infiltrated in Pakistan and what were the consequences of another bomb in Iraq; found myself unable to escape listening to an hour (a day?) of news of the death of pedophile.

Was he acquitted of the charges? Do you believe in the justice system? Your comment is at the very best insensitive, but more libelous I would say.

He was the greatest entertainer of my generation, and his untimely death deserves coverage. Get over yourself and stop projecting your 'i'm so self righteous because i care about real issues and not fake ones' attitude. Ofcourse, it is your right to say that. But it's also my right to call you out on something so b*tchmade.

Demerol can lower the seizure threshold, especially when administered to patients using certain other medications (MAOIs, others I can't remember and am too lazy to look up). This could lead to cardiopulmonary arrest under the right (or wrong, more aptly) circumstances. I don't know if it has other direct effects on the myocardium that could lead to cardiac arrest, because, as I said earlier, I am too lazy to look it up right now.

Sure, he touched some children...but he's Michael Jackson! He made Thriller! Thriller!!

I find it hard to believe a competent physician wouldn't have naltrexone on stand by for a patient on chronic opiates. Where did this supposed cardiologist train anyway?

Meperidine and other opiates are a bad combination. We don't even know what else he was taking and since meperidine blocks a whole lot of other receptors (or is an agonist) other than the opiate receptors that spells trouble for someone who is taking a lot of different medications.

It's a mu-agonist (blocks pain), dopamine and norepinephrine and maybe serotonin reuptake inhibitor (increases levels of D, NE, and 5HT in the CNS), anti-muscarinic (blocks acetylcholine action much like atropine), has an extremely fast onset of action and therefore causes a lot of dependence and addiction. It can interact with other opiates, benzodiazepines (against anxiety), and alcohol to cause CNS and respiratory depression, serotonin syndrome with agents that increase serotonin in the CNS like MAOIs, or seizures. Arrhythmia is another adverse effect. Unfortunately, meperidine also causes histamine release (especially after IV) and can give serious hypotension, bronchospasm, and shock.

If he was also taking oxycontin (oxycodone) as I heard earlier today, that could explain the bad outcome. If he is on those two highly addictive opiates, I wouldn't be surprised if he was on a whole lot of other drugs such as antidepressants which could cause a lot of serious interactions. We don't even have to mention the effects the drug have on liver metabolism in the case of inhibition of the P450 system and resulting toxic levels of drug due to a lack of drug breakdown. Even other drugs induce P450 which in the case of meperidine can cause toxic levels of its metabolite.

Man, its so sad. I remember the first song I heard when I arrived in America was "beat it". I didn't speak a word of englishbut I love that song. But I guess whenever your as wealthy and famous like micheal was there are always enablers around. One thing is for sure, this doctor is gonna have a lot of explaining to do.

Yeah, this event is really, really sad. As a kid I had a vhs of his music videos, I'd watch that stuff all day long. His music is timeless, there really isn't a bad song in his collection. Allegations about him being a pedophile are bs. His fault was being too generous and letting people into his personal life that he doesn't know. Peace out MJ, you will be missed.

Anyone entertains the thought of physician assisted suicide? Idk. But it's sad he died young.

*Was doing research at UCLA Geffen when MJ died across the street in the medical center*

Took me 30 minutes to drive 2 blocks on Thursday because of the traffic.

Rest in peace Michael. One of my biggest regret is never ever going to have the chance to see you perform in concert. My whole family will miss you.Rest with the angels.

wow same here, small world :luck:

he did pay millions to settle with one plaintiff. why pay if you're not guilty of so heinous a crime?

Wrong question. The question you should be asking is, will you accept money for silence if your son or daughter was raped? How much money is your son or daughter's dignity worth?

An excellent point. If it was my kid and it was true rather than some scheme to get money, I'd never stop fighting.

Ten million minimum.

The guy probably didn't want this to go on any further. Everyone was following the case, I could only imagine how Michael could have felt during that time. Paying the parents and kid to shut up with the accusations and stopping all the nonsense was probably easier on him than having the whole world watch the trial. I think even after the settlement the parents wanted filed another suit against him asking for more money. Greedy bastards.

Not really wealthy...he was between 400 and 500 million in debt!

why pay millions if you're innocent? umm...that's how hospitals settle dumb malpractice cases you know. court fees and risk of losing even if innocent is more expensive than paying off. Not saying he's innocent or guilty. Just saying it was a specious naive argument at best...

to the OP. opiates cause respiratory depression. demerol more specifically also lowers seizure activity. Neither of which explains sudden death (which is invariably cardiac arrhythmia or rarely PE) Just cause he was taking doesn't mean they specifically killed him. Wait on the tox reports and the second, private autopsy because nothing I've heard in the news so far really points to a cause of death. just to personal issues and addictions. I'm not even gonna speculate.

It's amazing to me how many people are so ignorant and disrespectful

I love how the government-sponsored media has been covering the "Michael Jackson Dies" story for over 2 days now. It sort of makes it seem as if they're trying to hide the failures of the current government...

The man died-->So what?! Everyone is going to die someday. Maybe some of us respect him, but that doesn't give you the right to overlook the much more important events that are happening. "National Trillion Dollar Debt" story>>>>>>>>>>>>"Michael Jackson Dies" story.

Personally, I think his negative qualities vastly outweighed his positive qualities. Anyway, God have mercy on his soul.

Thank you. A million people die from totally preventable diarrhea every year across the globe but everyone's all sensitive about this nut job accidentally killing himself. I just don't get it.

I find this strange too.
Innocent children, women, and men have died in the middle east during their whole conflict, yet no one in congress has bothered taking a moment of silence for them.
But just look at something that is related to us. Many of them have died in a war that arguably could have been avoided. Congress hasn't even paused for them. Congress hasn't even had a moment of silence for the men and women who they've put in danger and who have died for us.

I'm not saying any of this to be disrespectful to MJ, and may God have mercy on him. I'm saying that it is disgusting that the government will put more importance or more weight on the death of some people over the death of others.

He was arguably the greatest entertainer of all time and he set a cultural movement with his music bringing together people all across the world, there will never be another musician like him and you guys are complaining that people are honoring his one of a kind legacy? Give me a break

What type of legacy requires 3 days of continuous news coverage? A legacy filled with personal and racial insecurity? A legacy tainted with possible child molestation?

you focus on the allegations and bad of his career? He's done so much for music he deserves it, the King of Pop is dead and he should be honored as much as possible.

You can be the best singer in the whole world, but if you're doing things like getting your face destroyed and dangling your kid out the window, people shouldn't respect you. I don't see how anyone can seriously take this man as a legitimate role-model...

People can honor the death of whoever they want and as freely as they want. It's completely up to them.

What I don't understand is why congress had felt that it had the need to take a moment of silence before they went on to further mess this country up, yet they never took a moment of silence for the people who have died for this country.

To be honest I never believed the child molestation charges against him though he has done some very strange things over the years. Even the court doctor who examined Michael said he doesn't fit the profile of a child molester. Besides you guys are missing the point...He made Thriller

R.I.P. Micheal

👎 disagree with you, but each to his own.
