Well everyone that is applying next year or that is just wondering about the University of Michigans school of Dentistry format...well here it is:
I was there last week and It was THE last interview date for this year. The interview consisted of 40+ students yes 40! I found that kind of unique but I guess every school has their way of doing things. I spoke to some students who had earlier dates and they had the same number of students also.
I had to write an essay about what was the most stressful time in my life and how did I overcome it.
After a lecture about the school which is really informative and after the essay...you finally get the tour of the school. Now let me put it to you this way...I have been to other schools and nothing compares to that of NOVA. U of M is really run down as far as preclinical but the clinic area (3rd and 4th years) is very nice. The school has a brand new Ortho facilitiy that everyone was talking about but I did not get a chance to see it 🙁
After that there is a little lunch buffet kind of deal and it was really nice because it gave me a chance to meet some of the other students and see what other schools they had been to. During lunch one of the faculty members that is aleady assigned to you will come up to you and sit next to you and casually start interviewing you. It was really laid back and nothing to get nervous about type of deal. The Doctor that interviewed me was so nice I mean extremely nice!!
I really liked U of M because of the name recognition and the fact that It really is known to put your foot in the door if you want to specialize after graduation. That is one thing they kept stressing to us. U of M is ideal for me because it is for one a state school and cheaper than a private one and number 2 because it is near my home. I do not want to miss my friends and family too much. In the end, if you wondering which school I would feel more comfortable at ? Probably U of M , Due to family and friends and familarity with the area.
(if i were accepted)
Where I would be happier at?? Probably NOVA ( it really is a awesome school)
