I heard a rumour that interviews at UMich at this time of year (or maybe a few weeks from now) are only for spots on the waitlist.

The story goes that interview candidates are indirectly informed of this only upon their arrival. Can anyone verify/debunk this? It seems too manipulative to be true.

I interviewed early january and the admissions director katie horne said something to the effect of: we've already offered a lot of acceptances and most of you will be offered positions on the waitlist.

even before I interviewed, I heard a december interviewee say the same on an SDN thread.

on the other hand, Michigan has one of the most active waitlists among top 10 med schools. or so I've also heard.

many of us have "heard" about UMich's active waitlist, but has anyone actually been accepted off the waitlist yet? my status page hasn't even been updated since 10/15, so i'm wondering if my file has even been looked at since my interview.
