Has anyone on SDN been successful in obtaining in-state residency status at Michigan State when they were originally classified as an out of state student? Even if you weren't successful in being granted the in state tuition please share your experience with the appeals process etc.

Thanks in advanced!

Tried inquiring about this. Best to just roll with it or else you'll end up wasting time unless you plan on spending some time in Michigan before getting into school there. Have you been accepted then? If so, maybe I'll see you around.

basically impossible to do. You have to either have working in MI full time for a year prior to beginning your first semester (along with getting a new license plate etc.), or marry someone who has worked full time in MI for at least a year. No other way to do it they have closed every loophole. If you are out of state you can be refunded the difference between in state/out of state tuition (currently about 30K) for staying and working in MI for one year post graduation. The only schools you can do it easily at are NCSU, Missouri, and Ohio.

I am choosing to go to my in state so I won't be going to Michigan. I have a lot of extended family in Michigan so would have liked to go but I just can't justify the tuition difference.
