I got in these three great schools, but I am having trouble deciding which one should I go to?

I got $20 K per year at Michigan, (i am out of state) so I will basicadly paying in-state tuition. But, maybe it was that I was very tired the day of my interview that I did not see much that impressed me. It seems like students don't get much clinical experience, and I don't know how the school did on the boards. It also seems to be a very expensive city to live in. I am also planning on specializing in Ortho, since I have been working as an ortho assistant for almost 5 years. Could you dental students please give me some suggestions, I will really appreciate it. Thank you and to all of you Happy New Year!

I applied to BU and Michigan...and of the two Michigan in my opinion out weighed BU by far. Michigan is a fine institution...nearly all the grad programs are top 10...and prior to the loss of dental rankings it was also consistently top 5. Yeah thats old news, but the other dental schools and ortho programs around the nation remember that fact.

I guess when u came for the interview...you didnt meet the right upperclassman...cuz ill tell u of the schools that i interviewed at...Michigan was the "happiest" and most upbeat. In terms of clinical, we begin using the handpiece within the first week of dental school. We enter the clinic and start assisting within the first six weeks. In fact, with time not only do we get increased exposure but we can actually have physical patient interaction. For example, my first day in the clinic...sept. something...i assisted with a root canal and pressed the x-ray buttton....whoa! big deal...rite...well its "kind of a big deal" for a 6th week student to do some actual stuff. We start doin prophy's by june of the first year...and beginning of the second year we start doing restorative procedures on patients...many schools around the nation do not begin patient procedures until the third year...so as far as clinical experience goes...i think Michigan graduates some very competent clinicians.

As for the boards...ehh...yeah id say thats kind of Michigan's weakness...i personally think they stress sooo much on the clinical experience that we sacrifice some didactic stuff...but like anything in life its what u make of it...if u study ur butt off and prepare hard enough u can get an extremely high board score...(that actually was one of the things that i didnt like w.Michigan)

Ann Arbor...vs. Boston and Philly....umm yeah its expensive but not as much as those two...u want an overall bargain i think Michigan is the way to go considering u are getting a pretty sizable scholarship. I wish i had it...i pay out of state tuition and so far i have no regrets...in fact You can live 10 min away and get a STEAL for housing!

sorry i failed to mention....MICHIGAN FOOTBALL...welcome to the BIG HOUSE...vs. temple football(1 win)? and does BU have a football team?

everyone has lofty goals of specializing...esp ORTHO...
ortho spells GUNNER...hehe...(btw we have a brand spankin new ortho clinic thats really really really nice)

GO BLUE!

I am a Michigan man and I would have gone to michigan no matter what so for me it was not even a decision to make. Ann arbor is expensive for its size to live in but it is still a lot better than Boston and Philly. I don't want to specialize so didn't really care how the borad scores are and how many people get in to specialty programs etc, but for you it may be a factor in your decision. I say this that our clinical is good but I am sure there are other schools out there that have better clinical than what we have here. But I like the overall dental education at U of M. You get out what you put in here. We have inhouse specialties so you may not get to do really hard cases becasue they will go to grad programs but that's a case at most schools that have specialties. I say this Temple does have a very very good clincal experience and my good friend is 4th year there and has already done more than 200 extractions and hand full of 3rd molar extractions but he has done very limited ortho like most schools in the nation. Any way form your choices Michgan is a chepaer school with your scholarship than Temple and BU and that alone is a good enough reason to attend becasue when you get out no one will care where you went but you will have to pay those loans back so I say go to the school that is cheapest.

Yea, watching football will help when its time for exams right?

How did "Big Blue" do against The Ohio State in the Big Ten Title game?

Did you watch the spanking that USC put on Michigan in the Rose Bowl?

Damn it hurts doesn't it?
[I'm sure you are very proud of that:laugh: !]

You are really lost if you think,
a good football team = a very well balanced dental education

Harvard, Columbia, UPenn, UofP, Baylor...etc..., c' mon dude, what about their football teams and their respective dental schools?

Temple. I don't need to give reasons, you've heard them all before.
