This may be a dumb question, but as I'm reviewing micro I keep hearing that with acid-sensitive bacteria you need a lot of them to cause disease. Is that because they are all destroyed on the way through the stomach so very few reach their target intact, or is that true BUT you also need more of them to infect when you get to the target?

Well yeah if they're acid-sensitive then the environment in your stomach which is corrosive enough to burn off your fingers won't kill them.
