For someone who is a graduate and have been out of school for a while, which would be the better course to take Microbiology or Biochemistry? I need to take these classes to fulfill prereqs
Thank you

Biochem. Not even questionable

Why not both?

I'm still working and as I said I've been out of school for a while so in my opinion taking both might be too overwhelming. I need to get good grades in these classes I lack before applying. I was just wondering in you guys opinion which would be the better course to start with being that I've been out of school for a while. I have to register for classes today. I think I have to have a lab along with micro if I'm not mistaken but Biochemistry lab is optional

So in your opinion you think the concepts will be easier for me to learn with Biochemistry? I've already had organic and biology classes but it's been a while. I need something I can transition into and kinda pick up where I left off and do well if that makes sense

Biochemistry for sure.

Thanks for your reply. Can you elaborate on why in your opinion I should take Biochemistry. Just trying to be well informed. Thank you

Biochem will probably be the much harder of the two options actually. But it is still the right one to take because it is required now by many med schools (and the number increases every year) as well as being a topic covered by the MCAT.

Both are easy, take both. If you are trying to go to medical school you need to be exposed to both. Also if you think you're going to be overwhelmed by taking those two classes, imagine how overwhelmed you'll be in medical school...

I've personally found biochem to be much more useful in clinical research, as well. In the long run, it may serve you better.

It is absolutely the hardest class I've taken so far. So if you want your transition, I'd do it before med school. This is coming from someone who didn't take biochem in undergrad.

Drowning over hereeee.
And I took 16ish credits every semester in undergrad 🤣
But, I suck at biochem.

I took both, though not at the same time. Having said that, both classes have helped me out tremendously so far. Since I took Biochem, I am able to spend a bit more time on Physiology and not feel as overwhelmed as I did when taking Anatomy/Histology. Then again, Anatomy is a monster in itself...

Oh brachial plexus. What a great intro to anatomy.
