I'm sorry in advance for this incredibly stupid question but I'm panicking.

You see, I have a report that I need to email to my assessment prof by tomorrow, and I came home for the holidays yesterday and brought my laptop. Unfortunately I'm having an issue with Word and I can't figure out what is going on so hopefully one of you can help me.

Here's a picture of what's happening. As you can see, there are thingies in the corners of my page and they are on every file that I open, including my client report which I saved on my desktop back in the other city (they weren't there when I saved the file). I'm using the same version of Word but a different computer since I'm in a different city.

So could someone PLEASE tell me how to get rid of them? Thanks.

Basically, you just need to disable some languages. 🙂 QUick fix. Post so I know if it worked, okay?

Well that makes sense since my version seems to have some weird Asian language setting that it never had before, but when I went to "Microsoft Office XP Language Settings" to open it, it says it was looking for some kind of Frontpage program and that it couldn't find the CD and then it said "fatal error during installation" and won't let me open the program.

Thanks for trying. 🙁

Okay. On the bright side, the marks shouldn't be visible when you send the .doc to your prof, unless he has weird Asian Language settings enabled. 🙂

Oh, well that's good! I'm supposed to print them off but I guess I can just apologize profusely to him and tell him that he'll need to print them since I think something's wrong with my version.

I'm bookmarking that link you sent me so I can remember what to do once I have the CD in January. This is the last time I travel without my desktop.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it will work but
  1. Select the frame.<LI class=LPROC>On the Format menu, UNclick Frame.
  2. In the Horizontal and Vertical sections, UNclick the options you want.
You can type an exact amount or click the position you want. For Help on an option, click the question mark
    helpq.gif
, and then click the option.
Notes
  • <LI class=NLB>To ensure that the selected frame moves up or down with the paragraph it's anchored to, DEselect the Move with text check box. To ensure that a frame remains anchored to the same paragraph when you move the frame, DEselect the Lock anchor check box.
  • You can also position the frame by dragging it. Select the frame by moving the pointer over the frame's border until the pointer becomes a four-headed arrow. Then drag the frame to a new location.
That's about how the thing got there I THINK, so then just do the opposite of what it says I THINK...see if it works otherwise I'll see what else I can find

Oh I should have mentioned before that it doesn't let me select the stupid mark things.

Microsoft Office is like Vista, it's more trouble than it's worth. Grr.

If you click on format andthen frames does anything happen?

Maybe see if you can uncheck boxes that are checked off in there maybe
