Hi,

I'm not from the US and I was wondering if someone could please tell me whether universities in the United States offer mid year entry to courses?

I'll explain... For example, in Australia, universities offer this mid year entry to courses (aka semester 2 entry) where the courses commence in July instead of February/March (the regular semesters there are from around February/March to November as Australia is on the southern hemisphere and the seasons of the year are in contrast to the northern hemisphere etc.).

So, I was wondering if there is such a thing as semester 2 entry in the USA? Does such an option exist in the USA where you do not start your undergraduate study in the regular fall term (I'm assuming around September), but instead a couple of months later (e.g. January/February I guess...)...or is the only available time period to commence your undergraduate study in the USA in the fall semester/term?

Thanks

our semesters are typically from late august/early september until december; and then from january until late april/early may

when you apply to the school, most people apply to start in the fall, but you can also begin in the spring as well as an incoming freshmen

Thanks,

Do you by any chance know when do the applications open for beginning in the spring?

It depends on the university you're applying to, but I looked at Michigan State's website (where I go, and where there are also a lot of international students) and it says international students applying for the spring semester (starting in January) should apply in September...I would look at the websites of the universities you're interested in for exact details. Good luck!

Have all your ducks in a row by the end of the summer as far as any application materials you need...most schools require applications to be submitted in late summer/early fall for spring admission

Entering in 2nd semester to University is usually done by transfer students, and fall (1st) semester is for both freshmen and transfer students.

Also, a lot depends on the size of the school you will be entering. A larger college or university may offer the seminars/orientations (although in a lesser amount) for freshman at times appropriate for a student starting in the spring. Smaller universities may only accept freshman for the fall semester. Community colleges will take students into any semester.
