Hey everyone! It appears as though there aren't many people on SDN are going to schools in the midwest (UMKC, SIU, etc.) Where are my midwest peeps?!

I go to UW-Madison, but not staying in the midwest for dental school. Where are you from kids?

I'm from MO too. I'm in UMKC's reserved admissions program so I'll prolly be going for 2007. Grrrr. Already took the DAT, I just need to take a couple more classes in undergrad. Looks like we might have some classes together 🙂

Isnt boston close to the coast? I know that Mn is colder then alaska because alaska is by the coast and that keeps it warmer then us. We are the capital of cold. The east coast has had more snow then us in the last few years. When buffalo NY had a huge winter storm a few years ago, Mn sent around 7 or 8 dozen snow plows to NY. We dont get too much snow but the wind chill can get very . Oh, I do live in the twin cities. By the way, how is the cost of living in boston?

thanks. 🙂

I am from MI but I go to school at Graceland University in BFE Iowa (small private school). My fiance is going to be in KC for nursing school and I will be at UMKC for dental.

When I was talking about coldness I was referring to Madison, WI, that is where I go for my undergrad. I doubt there is a place colder than Madison, as all of past Nov and Dec we were in negative teens with windchill. Boston is way way warmer than Madison. Boston gets more snow than Wisconsin but it never gets nearly as cold. Boston's cost of living is way up there, probably right behind SF and NYC. It's gonna cost me an arm and a leg to get my DMD, but I love beantown and have planned on going to D-school there even as a high school student. GO SOX!

I'm wondering why there aren't many of us on SDN. Do people in this area just not know about SDN? Its a mystery to me.

Sorry boree, I have to do this, GO CARDS!

I'm from western KY and I'll be starting at UofL this July.

It's ok kids. To tell you the truth, other than Sox fans, I think the Cards have the best fans and I respect them for that.

P.S. The series 2 years ago might've been one of the happiest moments of my life.

I also wish to know the answer to that. There are very few midwest pre-dents on SDN. I know I know, the east coast is very heavily populated blah blah blah. But the midwest also has many schools and thousands of applicants. I wish they participated in this forum so that we could help eachother.

It is good to see a person from the same university. I go to UW-Madison, too

Ok, I know this gets off the topic of teeth for the moment, but that has to have been the worst series of games I've ever seen the Cards play. Now I'm a sensible girl when it comes to most sports, but I've never yelled so much at the TV as I did 2 years ago! It's going to be tough converting to a Royals fan when I move to Kansas City!

I've talked to other pre-professional students at my university about SDN and they have never heard of it. I'm trying to spread the word here, but it would be nice if there were more of us out there to help each other out.

is madison colder than milwaukee? I am kind of scared of the weather out there since I am going to be at Marquette in the fall. I am on the central coast of california. It's a chilly 63.

TimR, I think Madison is slightly colder than Milwaukee but probably not by much. The reason why Madison is so damn cold is that our campus lies between two lakes, so the coldness mostly comes from the wind chill. Milwaukee also lies right near lake michigan, so it gets cold there too. Wisconsin is Wisconsin, no getting around the weather. I have numerous friends from LA and other parts of cali here, and they seem to do ok but it's a bit easier to deal with it as an undergrad with all the drinking and partying but in D-school that fun is severely limited. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, you'll be inside studying most of the day anyways.

I disagree on both counts - the Cardinals get the "best fans in baseball" thing because THEY call themselves that and nobody really cares. They use examples of things like clapping for Ken Griffey Jr. when he hit his 500th homer in Busch as reasons they're so great. What people neglect to point out is some of the ridiculous stuff they do - booing their own players for biffing ONE play, booing Derrek Lee just for coming to the plate and having better stats in every independent offensive category than Albert Pujols, etc.

I don't know who the best fans in baseball are, but it's certainly not Sox (White or Red) or Cardinals fans 🙂

To answer the original post, I'm a midwest guy - I go to UIUC and I applied to both SIU and UIC.

Ok, here's a question for all you UMKC students. Do we get a free membership to the rec center when we're going to school? We do at my current university, and it would be awesome if we do there too.
