Ughhhhh, when did all you accepted people interview? I am hoping that I am not screwed if I didn't get a call today...I was really praying for some love from Midwestern. Interviewed Dec. 15th :xf::xf::xf:

I interviewed Dec. 1st. Go ahead and call admissions to ask for your status.
 
I just called. I'm on the alternate list...is that the same as wait list?
 
most likely. I'm guessing they gave out a certain number of acceptances today and will wait to hear from those first.
 
I didn't get a call this morning, so I called Admissions. I was denied. 🙁

Congrats to those of you accepted!
 
Ugh, alternate list too..the woman on the phone said we could be accepted up until the first day of class. I am sooo tired of not getting in anywhere. I thought my interview went awesome too. Does anyone (OracleDMD, you there??) have any info about alternate list movement in the past? Is it ranked (& if so, is there any way to find out where we are on the list)? I was really hoping to get good news...I mean I know its better than a rejection, but at least if it was I could move on and let it go. Now it is going to drive me crazy even longer. 🙁

And if I didn't get a call today, does that mean I am rejected?

Not necessarily, you could be on the alternate list. Just call and ask.

I will definitely give them a call tomorrow. I just wish I am not rejected.
 
Hey Guys,

I did not receive any phone calls from the school. But when I checked the midwestern portal, it shows that I have to make a deposit by Jan 15th and there is a list of things I need to turn in (e.g. transcripts, agreements). I'm going to confirm tomorrow, b/c I don't want to be happy and then fall down. Let me know if anyone else check online. GL!

Actually, the same thing happened to me. I called them after I checked online and was told that I was indeed accepted. 🙂
 
for the people who were denied/waitlisted, did it say anything on your midwestern portal?
 
I was not accepted until the end of june even though I interviewed in early october. My two study friends were also accepted late into the summer, and both were accepted after waiting a few months on the alternate list. I know some people in my class were even accepted in July and August. I was told when I was waitlisted to just keep hoping and it worked out for me. I was told when I was waiting that about half of the alternate list was accepted in 2008, and I believe this was close to what our stats were in 2009, and I have no reason to believe it will be any different in 2010. 50% are pretty good stats, better than most other schools so keep those fingers crossed, and keeping praying for that call. It changed my life. (I remember the call I was able to close up my Kaplan book and stop studying organic chem for the DAT). Good Luck Everybody. :luck:

Just incase you are wondering our class stats last year MWU 2009 were GPA 3.5, DAT 19, RC 22. RC is pretty important. I would say if you are around these stats you have a good shot. I was 3.47 Science GPA, 3.42 Overall with a 18 AA, 18 Science. I do have a couple of friends who have 17 AA, but they are the vast minority in our class. Hopefully this helps.

MWU has no official ranking of interviewees. Note the word official. I am sure that they have some way of ranking people, and some sort of list in a locked drawer or something but this is not known and definately not released.

Because you can't find out where you stand the best advice I can give is to provide the school with periodic updates. Let them know if your GPA improves or if you finish the last of their prerequesites. Ask the secretary at the school where to send this info to, to have it attached to your file. (you can even include little notes on your updates such as what you have done in the past few months since your interview). I believe that these little things demonstrate interest in the school, which I believe goes a long way. This is what I did. However be careful not to go overboard and only send updates occasionally, and always make an effort to make these gestures friendly (never demanding to know information).

I, too, would like to offer the same advice as ldscanadian. It might be because I'm an optimist, but I'd like to think of your "waitlisted" status as being better than a "rejected" status. You've already shown admission committees that you're more competitive than a GIANT pool of applicants. Like ldscanadian said, there was definitely a big chunk of dental students that was accepted from the alternate-list in our class. So, keep your hopes up 🙂

The same advice goes for a bunch of schools, too. For example, UMaryland was more or less the same way with their class this year. Although it might not be applicable to some dental schools--i'd say you should definitely NOT close the doors on the schools you've been waitlisted at. Do the little things to set yourself apart from the general applicant pool: Make sure you've sent thank you notes to your interviewers, update the schools on your improvements, be courteous and friendly with every interaction you have at the school, etc. This way, if you're selected from an "unranked" alternate-list, they have no hesitation about whom they're selecting.

I hope this helps! As cliche as it sounds--just hang in there because this is, by far, the worst of it all.. it only gets better from here 🙂

Just got a call, I'm in 🙂 They told me I'd be able to see it on my portal sometime this afternoon or tomorrow

Were you on an alternate list? Or did you get an interview after 2nd round is over meaning you were selected from the 3rd round?

And did they call you via your home phone number or cell phone number?

I just got a call too...Midwestern and AZ in general were absolutely amazing, but I already sent in my Nova deposit and Nova is cheaper/closer to home, so I will probably decline. 🙁

Hey Joon- I was on the alternate list after interviewing Dec. 15th and got the phone call on my cell number (which I think I listed as my main contact #).

I did 🙂 I'll most likely decline Midwestern for VCU. I have a profile on predents and my name is the same on there. I interviewed sometime in September and was placed on their waitlist Dec 1st. Oh, and they called my cell.

edit: by the way, does this mean Midwestern is done with 3rd round and interviews? Otherwise, why did they accept people from alternate list?
