Has anyone received notification of acceptance (or denial) after an interview at Midwestern in AZ? I had my interview on 1/26 and we were told our portal would be updated within the beginning of the following week...it's now the end of the following week and nothing has changed on my portal. Would it be out of line to call the university on monday to check the status of my application?

I looked last night(2/6) and it was posted on my MWUNET account. Maybe try again.

did you get accepted? congrats if that is the case!! My account has still not changed maybe they are not updating all at once

Midwestern hasn't sent out any of their emails yet, I kept checking my portal but nothing changed and my interview was the beginning of January...

I found out that I'm an "alternate" so I am just hoping something comes of that, I've also been waitlisted at Samuel Merritt...

I know its better to get a maybe than a no, but honestly, I really don't like being caught in the middle!

Could you tell me how the set up of the interview was? Writing sample? Group interview? Thanks.

Did they notify you to let you know that you were an alternate or did you call and ask? sorry to hear that you have only been wait listed at this point. Of course it is better to have a maybe, but is not easy in the meantime!!
As far as the interview at Midwestern, there were a group of people interviewed on the same day but interviewed individually by two people.

No problem! The interviews were pretty relaxed in my opinion. Also, after the interview they took us back one by one again and we went over our application to make sure all things were in order and we had a chance to explain anything we needed to.

Yep, I got accepted, which is really exciting....I was starting to worrry I wasn't going to get in anywhere. I got accepted to A.T. Still too, but I can't decide which one to go to. I need to make a choice soon! Any thoughts?

That is great!! I interviewed at both and honestly the programs seemed almost identical. Campuses were different as I'm sure you noticed but unless you were planning to live in the campus apartments at Midwestern it seems like having a big campus with "amenities" (such as a large cafeteria, gym, etc) wouldn't really make a difference. The student at A.T. Still said they have free membership to the YMCA which is across the street if that matters to you. The overall vibe I got from A.T. Still was more serious. It sounded like students went there to get work done, were very serious about school and went home. Comparing this to Midwestern it sounded like the students were all very friendly with each other and spent a lot of time hanging out together. Obviously, this could have just been the students I was matched up with, but I got that impression from the different campuses as well. It also sounded like more students from Midwestern came from out-of-state while students at A.T. Still were from Arizona, which could make a difference. Both programs focus on clinical aspects and have professors who have worked in the field and know what they're talking about. A.T. Still is in a better location (in my opinion) in terms of how close it is to Tempe, downtown Phoenix, and most major suburbs. It sounded like the commute to A.T. Still was much better than the commute to Midwestern (I say this because the students at Midwestern said everyone lives about 5 mins away and the student from A.T. Still said most everyone commutes from further away). Both schools emphasized the open door policy and the fact that classes are small and you can get all the attention you need. I know I rambled, but hopefully that helps you!! When do you have to decide by?

Thanks for your thoughts, it's nice to hear others perspectives. I just can't decide, I keep going back and forth. I have to let A.T. Still know by the 22nd and Midwestern by the 25th.

I got the same feeling from Midwestern, the students were really nice and it seemed like they had a ton of fun together. It was hard to tell what the culture at A.T. Still was like because I went on a Friday and they don't have a ton of classes on Friday, so there wasn't a whole lot going on around campus. I guess Fridays off is a big plus!

It would be 20 min drive to A.T. Still and an hour(without traffic) to Midwestern for me, I'm worried it would be a 2 hr commute with traffic.

Depending on where you live with respect to the campus, traffic going towards Midwestern can be pretty bad. Especially if your route takes you towards and through downtown Phoenix as it is a big commuting city (there are a lot of businesses but not nearly as much housing in the city itself). The student that gave me a tour at A.T. Still did say they have Fridays off which is a pretty good perk if you ask me! She also said she was able to work and have a job while in school if that matters to you. (but take that with a grain of salt as it sounded like she might be the exception, not the rule)

Cool, thanks for all your help and input, I'm going to force myself to make a decision by Sunday. Good luck on your school applications! I'm sure we met.... we were at the Midwestern interview on the same day, 🙂 It was a little annoying waiting around for the interview, but it was also really nice getting to know all the other applicants.

The deadine you are talking about is for the deposit I'm assuming? Do they refund any of it? Touro does so I was wondering if the two AZ schools do.

Hey all!

So I just got accepted to A.T. Still and am Alternate listed at Midwestern. I got the EXACT same vibe from the campuses- that Midwestern is more of a "your whole life is on the campus" kind of place, while A.T. seemed more like the school where people went, studied, worked on projects etc but still had a life outside of school. My interview was also on a Friday and it was also on the empty side. I like that there is interaction between all of the different disciplines... the one big building could get boring but at least its centered and you know where you are and where you need to be!

Also, the apartment complexes withing walking distance sound nice and affordable - the guild (A.T. Still I'm referencing) said that his apartment was 2 bedrooms for 650/month... and that there was a nicer complex that was a little more but all had pools etc. The free membership at the YMCA seems great and its literally next door.

Have you made your decision on a school yet?

You said by Sunday but thats still a tough deadline to have...

GOOD LUCK!

And if you end up at A.T. Still, we may be classmates! The more I think about it the more I'm really liking the thought of it and I'm sending in my deposit by March 3rd...

A🙂

Justmakemesmile,

I was accepted to ATSU last week too and I plan on going there, just gotta send my deposit by March 3rd! I am so excited!! Dis you happen to catch the name of the apartment complex you mentioned? I have already been looking up different places in the area and would love to be within walking distance. Good luck to all with your decisions and hope to see at least some of you in the fall!

It looks like we will all be classmates!!! I decided on A.T. Still too, it was a tough decision, but I am really excited. I look forward to meeting you in the fall!

What was your deciding factor? I'm in the same boat of deciding.

A.T. Still is around $4,000 cheaper a year, Friday’s off, and closer to my house.

I really liked Midwestern though. I loved the campus, the students I met, and the department seemed really invested in their students. I also liked Midwestern’s field work options a lot more. They gave you more flexibility with fieldwork, where A.T. Still makes you do certain specific types. I think it meant a lot that Midwestern invested half a day to the students too. I wish A.T. Still would have done the same, I think I would have gotten a better feel for it if they would have.

With all of that said, it was a really tough decision and I hope I made the right one for me. Good luck making the right one for you!

Thanks for the reply. I'm still torn, so we will see.

What were your guys stats? gpa, volunteer hours...? all pre-reqs complete?

I was told at a few interviews that I didn't need to worry about my stats...that they wouldn't have asked me to do an interview if they didn't think my grades were good enough. If you get an interview, then I think your acceptance is based on how well you do in that interview and they aren't considering your grades as much after that. I did TERRIBLE at my first interview, I was nervous and I didn't have great answers planned out...thus, I didn't get into that school. I practiced my answers to the main questions like "conflict resolution", "leadership", "why OT" and did a ton better and got offers to the rest of the schools I interviewed with. So, if you get an interview, you just have to be confident.

I still have 2 prerequisite to do, like 20hrs of OT observation, and an okay GPA (mid/lower 3's). But the field is getting more competetive, so the more you can do, the better.

What were the other schools that gave you offers, if you don't mind me asking? I'm hoping to apply next year and still have a few pre-reqs left myself and I need to work on my volunteer hours since i've been having trouble finding places that are taking volunteers. You were able to get in with just 20 hours of OT observation?
