Midwestern IL
Started by mag7ical
Illinois is pretty cold. Windy......are they OOS friendly?
Midwestern U is originally based in IL, for a long time, but never had a dental school. The AZ one opened up a branch of Midwestern U later, and added a dental school a few years ago. Now the IL one is doing the same for incoming Fall 2011 students.
The MWU in AZ is pretty friendly to OOS students, since it's private - I'd assume the IL one is the same.

What do you guys think about it not being accredited. The inaugural class is Fall 2011 and then they will undergo initial accreditation, but they won't receive full accreditation until that class graduates in 2015....
I called ADA and they said it is unlikely that it won't receive accreditation, but I have to worry... I can't imagine being 4 years into dental school, $100,000 in debt and then not getting a license. You also don't have anything to base board scores from...
Even with all of that being said, they do have many other successful medical programs, AZ campus seems to be doing well too and I am sure they will adopt their curriculum... I think it will turn out to be a great school later down the road. I just have to decide if it's worth the risk to go to a school that has no previous dental education experience.

I hope you understand you will be a lot more than 100,000 in debt if you go to a private school like mwu

Ya... $100,000+ That wasn't the point of the post... Sorry

That's my biggest worry. I thought it might be a "safe school" for admissions since it's new. But not worth it if I get screwed over in the future.
If you attend a school that is granted "initial accreditation" you will be granted a degree as long as you graduate. There is no risk for the student in that aspect. Do you really think a school with an already successful start in AZ and years more experience would open an additional campus and invest millions if there was even the slightest chance of not moving forward?

Exactly. Also, it's not like Midwestern is new to the world of health care education.
I am looking at the supplemental for MWU-IL and it asks why do I want to attend this campus specifically.
to be honest, im not sure what to write. there isnt much on the website and everything on there is pretty much same as MWU-AZ's website. but i dont want to write the supplemental assuming they will be the same. has anyone been able to find specific info about this school?

people are not going to share what they find obviously they dont want your answer to sound very similarI am looking at the supplemental for MWU-IL and it asks why do I want to attend this campus specifically.

hahaha..well that is obvious. only a slacker would not even bother to relate the strengths of the school to his own strengths...simply stating that "oh this school has ___ and it rocks my socks" isnt impressive so why would i copy that.
so how about this: anyone able to provide links to help me find more info on the school? or ideas of how they are approaching this? ill give you a cookie 🙂

I agree Skylark and was actually wondering the same thing as I started working on the midwestern secondary days ago. It is just hard to address a question about a school that hasn't really existed yet ha I have a feeling we will come up with something worthwhile though, good luck! I'll message you if I have any great ideas ha
did someone say cookie?
haha
i like how they have a website that we can log into... makes things so much easier!
