I heard that Midwestern in Arizona is looking to open a dental school in its Chicago/Downer's Grove campus? Has anybody heard about this or was it hearsay?

Yep, although I haven't heard any confirmations..there is definitely a lot of talk going on.

When I was at my interview last year Dr. Simonsen mentioned it in orientation. I'll ask him what the latest word is when I start this fall. For me, it was pretty impressive that a school who is just accepting its first class is capable and competent enough to be making plans for another school. MWU is quite accomplished in many medical and health disciplines and I'll bet they pull it off. Interesting that they would start the one in Glendale first though...I'll have to do some investigating.

This would be incredible. With Northwestern and Loyola closing their dental schools in the last ~10 years, it seems outrageous that a city the size of Chicago can only support ONE dental school financially (through alumni, govt assistance, etc).

I think this would be a great move on Midwestern's part. They seem to have a very positive reputation for such a young dental school. My opinion means absolutely zerio, but I think it would be a fabulous decision.

I am going to investigate why you are a Denver Donkeys fan first thing during orientation August 27...

The problem with Loyola and Northwestern is that the real estate value of the school's location was far more valuable then running the schools themselves. Property in those areas goes for $$$$$. Most dentists I know in the area either attended or highly regarded both schools and the dentists in the east coast also seem to have a fairly high regard for both schools.

As far as MWU, I've talked extensively with an OMS in the area who sits on the admissions committee for the DO school and he's very confident a new school will open in the next few years. In fact when I was applying for schools for 2007 admission, before MWU was made official, he was under the impression that the school was going to be opened at the Downer's Grove campus in Il. When it was announced that the school was to open in Arizona, he seemed shocked.

From what I understand, the MWU campuses aim to have most professional programs as well as a nursing program (if nursing is a professional program, sorry for naming it separately). So if having a dental, pharmacy, osteopathic, and nursing programs on one campus is the goal, don't be surprised to see one pop up in the DG area.

Lol. I'll see you there then. Too bad I'm going to be a dentist and not a psychiatrist, or else I could help you with that KC disorder you've got. It could be worse though...at least you're not a Raiders fan! Any tricks up Herm's sleeve this year, or just more of the usual--wasting Larry Johnson in that backfield?

This season is a total toss up....we could suprise and go 11-5 with our easy schedule, or we could play our age and finish 4-12 again. If we do finish 4-12...I will be completely fine with it as long as our four wins are against the Raiders twice and the Broncos and Chargers at home. We have to regain the Arrowhead advantage. By the way, have they sent your "free" scrubs yet? Take it easy...GO CHIEFS!

No free scrubs yet...

I'm from Illinois and think that it would benefit greatly from having another dental school in the Chicagoland area. With the major dental school deficit in IL, it would make sense that there would be reason to open a school here. I just wish that it happened sooner!

Midwestern in Downers Grove is planned to start in 2011 and have 125 seats.
