Should we change this thread's title to something more formal like "Official Midwestern University Interview Thread 2009-2010 Cycle"?
if the rumor about including chalk carving as part of the interview is true, i am sure they care about PATI am wondering does Midwestern care about PAT too much????
Midwestern interview everybody!
Last year, i got 15 RC and 13 QR and they also interviewed me!
Not want to burst your happiness but you really have to blow them at the interview!
I had a 16RC last cycle and got an interview but did'nt get in. I was able to speak with Dr. Polk regarding my application and he told me that I need to bring up my RC. Thankfully I'm scheduled again for Sept,29th. I hope my RC will be higher this time around.
You could hear as early as Friday morning if selected for an interview.Hi everyone,
How many days after submitting secondary application anyone recieved an interview? I submitted mine on August 15th 2009.
hey ucla2134,
What was your RC score...just curious since i got 17 :/
Sweet, MWU interview for me! Mailing date was 7/17, completed supplemental about 2 weeks ago. Scheduled for October 6th
wow, MWU is filling fast. Someone posted on another thread that he/she just got an invite and dates are all for last week of Nov.talked to admissions today and interview dates appear to be full through the end of september. good luck all!

regarding value of interview- Midwestern interviewed in the past around 500 people from 3000 applicants for 110 seats. I do not have numbers what their acceptance rate was but would assume it was slightly higher than other schools. For many students cons of having high tuition and no history of passing the boards and placing into specialties will be deciding factor to decline their acceptances and go to less expensive options. Every school interviews about 3 people per seat and accepts 1,5 to 2 students per seat.
Marquette interview 300 out of 3,000 applicants and accepts 110 for 80 seats. Tufts interview roughly 400 of 4000 applicants and accepts 310 for 165 seats. NYU accepts roughly 600 people for 230 seats since they know their turnover is pretty high.
Just had my interview at Midwestern and here are my impressions...
1) Beautiful facilities and a very nice campus. Everything is new, of course, and they definitely didn't spare any expense on the facilities. The on-campus housing is both convenient and comfortable looking.
2) The people there are incredibly friendly and very experienced. Although the school is new the teachers and administrators still bring a ton of knowledge and experience to the school. The teachers there stress helping students become great dentists and good people. They do this not by academically torturing you, although it does sound like a rigorous program, but by assisting you every step of the way.
3) You take your boards after the first year, which I really like, but this does mean that the first year will be very difficult. Their average board score is above the national average. I find this very encouraging because they are a new school and must've had to work out a few kinks that first school year. They will only continue to improve I am sure.
Some points about the interview...
1) The interview itself was very standard and professional.
2) There wasn't any chalk covering or dexterity test.
3) It was great to be there from 7:30 to 2:30 because it allowed you to get a nice feel for the campus and dental school environments.
Overall, I like what they do there and was very impressed.
I hear MWU received about 2500 applications. Since the dates for interviews are given in last weeks of Nov I am assuming they gave about 300 invites by now. MWU does pretty good number/ about 200/ of post Dec interviews and gives about 40 seats post Dec.Hi everyone,
I am getting worried because I have not received any response from Midwestern since I submitted my supplemental application on august 15th. I am not sure why they are taking so long to respond. Do anyone in the same situation?
They've been sending out rejections so the fact that you haven't got one means that you're still in the game 😀Hey I send my supplemental on 08/11/2009 and I haven't receieved any further notice after that regarding interviews...
Am I already screwed?!??!!
anybody interviewing tomorrow Tuesday sept 8th?
i just got here and im staying at comfort inn (about 45 bux, they offer shuttle service to the school and take you back, king size bed, free wifi - for those who need to find a place to stay).
i would just like to see if anyone is here
GOOD Luck!! please post how it goes for us

I just got mine on Dec. 1st. I guess all the other dates are pretty much booked. My application was completed last week and they updated my status today. Does anyone know how long it would take to drive from Southern Cali. to Glendale? Thanks!
just posted interview feedback (2nd one on 9/8/2009).
had great time there and if anyone has questions, feel free to ask.
just to give yall some ideas,
interview started at 8. but most people got there around 7:30. i got there before that because my shuttle from Comfort Inn left at 7 and it was only 10 mins aways so i got there around 7:15.
first you go and check in, get your name badge and folder with schedules and lunch pass.
then you would just sit in the waiting room area, where there are snacks, drinks, and etc. and you just wait for other people to come. during this time, there were 2 dental students there with us and they did really good job at making us feel comfortable and welcome (thanks BJ). Also, I got to see OracleDMD, which was pretty cool haha
total of about 18 people were there and everyone was very friendly.
first you start with dean's presentation about MWU, AZ, military scholarship, and etc.
then you get financial lady to show you the video about financial aid.
Interivew starts after the video. applicants were divided into 2 groups (9/9 each). first group will start their interview, while the second group will go on campus tour (when second group is done, first and second group will switch). Both groups were divided into 3 panels, A,B,C, and each panel is made of one faculty and one student interviewer. So it was 2 groups (9 people each), divided into 3 panels (A,B,C), and applicants are interviewed by one of them. student interviewer changes each time but faculty stays in the same panel for whole time.
questions were pretty general, ones you can find on interview feedback. no surprise questions (i listed all 5 i was asked on interview feedback). practice questions but more importantly be yourself because MWU really tries to see you as a person. They do not talk about your application file or numbers during the interview and questions were not related to your stats but they were for your characters.
After interview, we went to the cafeteria for lunch. we had from 12 - 1 PM for lunch, and during this time you also get to talk to other dental students and ask them questions.
after lunch, we got in the MWU bus and they showed us the student housing (located inside the campus), clinic (which is still under construction), and then the best simulation lab. sim lab was truly amazing (i have been to SA and Baylor sim lab which were very nice but MWU's was even better).
After sim lab, it's pretty much over and you come back and check out.
Hello!
Nice post about your interview experience. So when you were interviewed by the faculty, was it one-on-one or they interviewed you and the other two students together? Thanks!
Does anybody who has interviewed at Midwestern know how relaxed the interview is?
For example, do they try to surprise you with tough interview questions, or are they just trying to get a feel for who you are?
Wanna know what my very first question was?? Before I even sat down, my interviewer asked me why should they pick me out of the 13 people in the room? What made me so special?? boy I gave them a crappy answer
you gave a crappy answer and you gave it at 100 miles/hour!!! haha you talk fast anyway, and when you get nervous you talk even faster hahahaha i'll still never forgive you for turning down western to be on a waitlist at UOP.....you'll get in for sure this year...but you could have been IN DENTAL SCHOOL ALREADY!
Just had an interview on the ninth. I didn't prepare enough, I wish I had given better answers. Cool school, really hot weather, cafeteria has horrible food. The interview was very laid back, the students were really nice. I was interviewed with a doctor and a student. The student tried to ask me a difficult question, but it really wasn't that tricky. I think she was too nice to really ask it in a tough way. Before the interview, as I never really heard anything about MWU, attending there was not a consideration. Now its a top choice for me. Very nice school, campus, facilities, and I think the people seem really nice. No cuthroat activity, at least it looks that way. They said the clinic will have 242 seats. That's a lot. Being in a retirement community, it seems they could fill those seats very well. They said the clinic was due to be finished next spring. The students enjoy being such an integral part in forming the curriculum. A second year said that the boards passing ratio was mid-90's. Not that they have an official ratio? But she said that everything in her first year classes prepared her 100% for boards. So this just looks like a cool place to go. Not to mention having 70 degree weather during Christmas time.
Quick Question: When you are invited for an interview, does it just show up on the Midwestern MWUnet portal, or do they send you an e-mail first? If it just posts on MWUnet, does it show up under "Messages" on the home page or under "interview scheduling?"
