This is a questionf or all you military folks out there. When you applied to med school did you just send AMCAS your smart transcripts? I didn't really receive any military "GPA" or anything but I have a smart transcript that says what equivalent courses are.

Can I enter in the military as a school on amcas? These schools don't even release records of students (classified). All I can get is a smart transcript that shows equivalent college credits. I've transferred these onto my main university transcript but there aren't any grades (on my college or smart transcript).

I would also like an answer to this. I have 30+ credits from prior service, and then another 72 from civilian college from an AAS degree. Can I use the military credits when applying to med?

When I applied, I was required to send in my CCAF transcripts direct from Maxwell AFB to AMCAS. Of course, most of my credits were essentially Sat/Unsat type ratings, and none were prereqs. Basically, you must submit transcripts from *all* schools you attended, which would include any and all military transcripts that exist.

From what I've read, the best thing to do is enter SMART as a school, and list all of your SMART "classes" under that school. Each course needs to be entered (even stuff like basic training). AAMCAS says something about doing a transcript exception, but I've read that people just enter it as a school...and it seems to have worked for them.

Thanks! That really helps out.

I ordered a SMART transcript for AMCAS and AACOMAS. I had to manually enter each equivalent class name into the little block on the application and credit hours. I felt like I was lying the whole time, so I called the AMCAS people. They said that's what I was supposed to do. For "semester/quarter" and all that, I put "other" or "n/a" I can't remember which. I didn't recieve an actualy grade in any of my schools, either, so I put "pass" for all of them. Only officer schools give actual GPAs (I guess), but I'm not an officer, so I sort of ignored that part. Still, it felt like a lie, but they said "ALL" transcripts. They got them all. No one said anything, and I got into two schools, so I guess it worked out okay. HOpe this helps.

Just digging for some clarification--

the ACE identifier say is NV-xxxx-xxxx for recruit training, and under the ACE credit recommendation it says:
" 1 semester hour in personal fitness/conditioning,
1 in personal/community health, and 1 in first aid and safety " for a total of 3 credit (total bs) hours.

now, do i enter this as three 'different' classes (1--personal health, 2--personal fitness, etc.) with the same identifier? OR, do I enter the NV-xxxx-xxxx once, count it for 3 credit hours, and describe it as "fitness/health/first aid"??

A big thank you ahead of time to anyone who answers this. 🙂

No one can clarify this, really?

That's cool. I thought it would be faster asking the great oracle that is SDN, but I suppose a call to the good 'ol AAMC is fine. Good luck everybody applying this cycle!

I applied this year and will be starting this fall.

I listed SMART as an institution and used their address in Pensacola.

I got my SMART transcript and input just the classes that had actual hours annotated, so all my PME--if you're USMC, you'll be familiar.....I only put the Warfighting and EWS courses on my AMCAS app and how many hours they were. I didn't put anything else, even though there's many other things listed on the SMART transcript. AMCAS didn't have any issues with it.

I will try to post a picture for you all, but currently, AMCAS doesn't like my version of firefox--typical. I feel like it's NMCI.

I would do what I bolded above. Sorry I didn't answer that in the above post.

So here's an example of some of my SMART courses....as you can see, some of them have lots of hours listed. They consisted of multiple subjects, but I listed them as one course.

With the appropriate course number. Also, I did not input a grade, but when AMCAS finalized my app, they gave me grades of P, so I would imagine you could put that on there. And I guess I listed them all as other.

yeah, I was surprised when I entered the 'course' for being an AM2. It was 26 credits! I did put a 'P' for the grades too. Thanks again for the pointers.👍
