Hello All. I am currently in a PhD program for Counseling Psychology and am preparing to apply for internship next November.... I am hoping to get matched with the USAF. Anyone else in my boat?

That was my intention but . . . things happened to boot me off the boat. 👎

G'luck! :luck:

do you want to share?

 Sure.

I had hoped for this as a a potential route when the time came but it seems as if it is not to be. I have a "medical condition" that will immediately disqualify me. No ifs ands or buts about it.

I previously had been in DEP (a helluva long time ago), so I am aware that there are waivers for certain conditions (as I was required to pull a few for some minor issues way back when). Unfortunately, there's no way in hades they're giving me a waiver for my current condition. So I'm SOL and off to find another route. 👎

Don't be so sure... I know one psychologist who was discharged from the Army after graduating west point with a heart condition, only to be picked up by the Navy. Unless you have tried for a waiver and failed, you can never be sure. I have seen some crazy stuff waived (e.g. Heart Condition) and I have seen people get DQ'd for stupid stuff (e.g. Torn ACL).

Either way, good luck... sorry to hear that you got some bad news. If you applied and were denied a waiver, then you're 100% correct. Once a service branch makes a decision like that, it's final, but only for that service branch.

Your story though is why I sought to get in as early as possible, before something went wrong!!!

Interesting. I'm sending you a PM (I hope you don't mind!)

Anyone match to a military site? My Air Force goal was pretty lofty since it was based on one OK phone interview for all 3 sites, and Army just had delays with completing the physical, so my military hopes didn't work out. I got a great VA internship though, so not complaining. Anyone got good news from the Match?

I matched with a military internship. Feel free to pm me and I'd be happy to help! 🙂
