Hi all,
after the preliminary year I joined the ANG (not as a MD). My full time commitment is going to end in 1.5 year, and I would like to came back to medicine, but my contract with ANG mandate 6-8 days a month and a week a year with ANG. Do I have any chance to get a slot?

Big picture? Not really with that kind of time commitment.

In most specialties (EM, PMR, Path and perhaps Psych being possible exceptions depending on the program) you're looking at 4-8 days off a month from residency (and more commonly 4 than 8) so you're talking about spending every single day "off" working for the Guard. And that assumes you could get those 2 schedules to mesh, which you won't be able to.

Couple of things might make it work out-if your MOS is medical they might allow you to count some of your residency days for your ANG requirement (I was a nurse in the Army Reserve, and during med school they let me just do my rotations instead of doing annual training and in place of some battle assemblies-was nice because I was getting paid to be at school), if they won't do that they still might cut you a break on attending. Also, employers are required to give you time off for military duties. Things that would go against it working out-programs know they have to accommodate you not only for the schedule you state, but for any deployment you might get sent on, so they may be less likely to rank you (I know every place I interviewed at was very interested in if I had any remaining military obligation-and seemed happy when I said no)
