Minimum competitive science GPA? MCAT?

i'd say 3.4+ for science and Mcat 27+

It depends...my school's medical school is a 3.4 with a 24-27 as min....But, really you shouldn't look at the mins and shoot for as high as you can get.

For the newest and low tier schools, with an early app and 3.0/3.0/25 you could probably get several interviews. For upper tier, probably 3.5/3.5/27.

You will prob get wl if you manage to get an interview with a 3.0/3.0 25 unless you have really really good EC. For the record I got rejected by Campbell and marian post secondary with a 3.3/3.3 26 good ECs and had five other interviews. If you have a 3.0 you should retake your mcat and aim for a 27 to 28 minimum. I think the minimum you should apply with is a 3.2 26 unless you have really awesome ECs that are above average to boost your app. DO is becoming competitive. Schools like dmu are creeping up to low tier md schools. New schools are far fr a guarantee.

In my opinion, it is extremely dependent on the rest of the application. For example, you're applying to a DO school with a 34 MCAT....you're pretty much solid with a 3.0 gpa. If you have a 23 or a 24? You probably need at least a 3.5 or greater. Obviously those are extremes and it would depend on the particular school, but I think it's pretty difficult to say since a lot of DO schools tend to review applicants fairly holistically (and i use this term loosely because that's the claim). This is a pretty difficult question to answer on broad terms 😎

NEW: 3.0-3.2; MCAT 23+
HIGH END: 3.3-3.5; MCAT 25+

Applications are way up for my school this year, so we can afford to be choosier. I assume it's the same nationwide.

What is the minimum science GPA needed for some of the higher end DO school? for some of the newer ones? 3.2? 3.1?

What about for the MCAT?

I think DMUs averages are 3.68 and 27.5ish and they were boasting about having a record number of applicants this year. So for a guaranteed shot at top schools, I would say it is just right.

These two posts are probably the most helpful. The first one is a pretty good rule, but the second one shows the slight exception. From what I've seen, 3.4/29 puts you in an excellent spot. Still, some schools won't tell you anything even with 3.6/30, COUGH CCOM COUGH. It's a little bit of a crapshoot.

Yeah, I agree that most of it is a crapshoot. I was wondering because I dont want to send out my app if I'm not even gonna get looked at.

But it seems that as long as you have an above GPA of 3.2 and an mcat of 26 or higher that you will get looked at, which is reassuring.

Yes, just do your best for gpa and MCAT. I don't know about you, but I didn't want to apply more than once. Good luck!
