I will be attending my first year of dental school in July and was interested in applying for the 3 yr HPSP.

I recently contacted an army HPSP recruiter in San Francisco to get some more info and I just wanted to verify his information bc I've read so many different info, I don't know which one was correct. He stated that to even apply for the HPSP, you need a min gpa of 3.2 (I also heard that 3.0 gpa was the bare minimum?) and a 3.5 to be considered competitive. He also told me that the army does not consider post bacc gpa. He stated that army doesn't take 3 yr hpsp applications but only considers 3 yr hpsp ONLY if you're a rollover as a 4 yr applicant rejectee.

I was wondering if this min gpa was the same for both Air Force and the Navy? I don't know if this still applies but I read that for the hpsp, they use a matrix based selection where they consider a culmination of gpa, DAT scores etc. If you're under the minimum, I heard you can get a gpa waiver for it? Where can one get one? Sorry for all the questions but wanted to double check with those that have applied for the scholarship recently.

I thought your username read "itistoolate", and I was expecting a much different response.

I think Army/Navy are moving away from giving out three year scholarships, but AF is still actively recruiting for 3yr.

Each branch is different in terms of requirement, but only slightly. Just ask

They stopped doing matrix years ago for dental

Your recruiter can give you the application like everything else

HPSP do things differently every year. This cycle's information is most accurate. Last year is somewhat applicable. Any older is suspect. Check the date.

Not sure about minimum GPA. Back in my day, you just needed a pulse and an acceptance letter from a dental school. But it seems like all 3 branches in the military are overcapacity with regard to dentists so it makes sense that they're cutting down on the HPSPs
