Hey guys!

Do all DO schools have a minimum grade requirment for their pre-requisit courses? I contacted Lincon Memorial U and was told that their minimum grade for pre-reqs is a C, does this apply to all DO schools? Also although calc isn't a pre-req for most of the DO schools, for those that are would you recommend that I should re-take if I got below C in it??

Thanks for your input!! 🙂

retake everything you can C and below. You can't afford to have too many (if any) C's. Its pretty competitive even at the newer schools, so you have to be the best possible candidate you can. some people will jump down your throat for wanting to take the easy route or whatever...dont worry about them. just make your grades, do well on the mcat, the rest will sort itself out. good luck

passing is a C (I've got a couple) but when it comes to the numbers....you want to stay above 3.0...the higher the better. if you've bombed any pre reqs (I've done that too), just take them over or an equivalent. but if you don't need it, I wouldn't retake it.
on the AACOMS you have to put in all classes you've taken which will give you one gpa but when you plug the required classes on your secondary for the indiv school, the gpa will change. if it's not a pre req...that should change greatly.

I have to work VERY hard at math. Im taking calc the spring semester of this year. (my final undergrad year). I hope to God I have an acceptance, so a C wont break me.

D's are no-no's for medical school. Don't even apply until you've retaken them.

Okay... well I'm in the process of applying right now so what if I retake the physics course in the fall semester and do better than I did before? (i never took high school physics and that was a big mistake!) Should I let the adcoms know that I'm retaking the course??

ooh phsyics and calc!!!

Almost all DO schools (as well as MD) have a C- minimum. If you goof up on a few ( I got a C- once and need to retake it ) you can retake and luckily AACOMAS completely factors in the retake. I disagree a little concerning the advice about 'retaking everything' though. If you received a grade below a C, then retake, if not then move on and show improvement in a higher level course of the same subject. I have had friends try to retake everything they messed up a little bit in, and all it did was create a mess on their transcript and ended up messing with their units.

For NYCOM it is C.

I applied to 12 schools last cycle and all but one had aC minimum for pre-reqs (which means you have to retake anything that's a C- and below). Most of the schools enforce this policy, so don't think they'll make an exception if you have one C- in a pre-req. Check the individual school websites to check which ones have the C vs. C- minimum if you have pre-reqs that fall on this border.

Hey Greenshirt...honest question here...

Which is the school that doesn't enforce the minimum 'C' requirement?

I'm gonna be applying with a big fat D+ in 3rd quarter physics and that info is somethin I'd kinda like to know.
