Hey guys, I was placed on the ranked waitlist at MN. I just noticed they updated their website on 3.13.08 and it appears that there is only 1 spot on the TC campus, and 1 spot on Duluth, so I imagine the letters from the last 2.22 session were sent out. I was just curious to see if anyone waitlisted on the ranked list had heard where they were placed.
 
I am on the ranked waitlist as well and have not heard anything about my rank yet. This is the only school I applied to so I am quite anxious to hear something soon.
 
It seems like alot of the last interviewers are not the rank waitlist because so am I. Have not received position yet either.
 
I interviewed on 2/22 and have not received a letter yet regarding a decision. They stated at the interview that they would not send out notices until 3/28, however I am hoping that since the website updated on 3/13 that it will be sooner.
 
Just so you know....I was holding 2 spots until late last summer at 2 schools, one of which was the U of MN. I released it a month before school began, so it may happen in the future for you. I assume many/most schools deal with this. Don't lose hope over the spring/summer months!
 
I was also put on the ranked waiting list from my interview from January. Here is what I think the situation is. The update was not from the last interview day, but the 2nd to last interview day. The last interview day people are fighting for those last 2 spots. The reason i say this is because they never updated the website until we got our letters back from my interview. Also i noticed a number of individuals from my university were put on the regular waitlist which im assuming because the ranked waitlist may already be at the max of 50-60 people.

Hopefully a lot of people drop their positions!!
 
Today I received the decision from the 02.22.08 interview date. I am also on the ranked waitlist. The letter states they hope to decide on exact placement on the waitlist by 04.21.08.
 
For those of you on the ranked waitlist, don't loose hope if UMN is where you want to go. I was on it last year (number 27 or so I think). I got a call near the end of June, early July and got in. I know people in the 50's who got called closer to Aug or in Aug and got in.

And to everyone one who got into any school and isn't planning on going there. Call them as soon as you decide, so they can call people on the waitlist, because it isn't fun to be called in August and then have to be at the school in 2 weeks!
 
I know some students at UMN who got into the program from waitlist in August. So don't give up!
 
has anyone EVER been pulled from the unranked waitlist?? that where Im at unfortunately
 
I hope that everyone here gets in soon! It would be nice to have some fellow SDNers in class with me🙂 So far there are only 2 of us on this thing that are going to the Duluth campus, 4 total to Minnesota.
 
Soccer Coach, I should hear within the next week or two from UNMC in Omaha whether or not I am accepted there. If that's the case I am heading there...mostly because my wife would be able to continue her current career.

Rest assured waitlistees, I will notify U of MN immediately if I end up going elsewhere...waiting just plain sucks, I understand. Hopefully there will be a spot open for someone in Duluth very soon!
 
I had the pleasure of being #55 on the waitlist last year and I had checked Twin Cities ONLY. I was offered admission in the middle of August. I thought I had no chance (and frankly wasn't into that school because I was too lazy to move), but there it was.
 
Is UMN really that research based? I just got accepted to UMN Twin Cities and I'm trying to decide where to go. I'm not really planning to do research so that whole paper/seminar you have to do your fourth year sounds like a bit of a turn off...any input from accepted or current students?

I would assume that most schools have some sort of P4 project/paper/seminar. The other school(s) that you are interested in don't have something like this? If you're turned off by it and contemplating not going because of it, then you should probably go to another school that doesn't have it. You should choose the school that's right for you in all aspects, including curriculum.

I do not think that having to do a research paper during your 4th year should be a sufficient reason not to attend the university. Personally, I think it is a great idea to have students do the research paper because not only you gain useful skills (research, writing skills, etc.) but also you can put it on your resume/CV, which looks great. If you will be applying for residencies, this experience might make you stand out from other applicants as well. Moreover, during your rotations, you might be required to do some small research projects and presentations, and already having an experience with doing a research paper before will make your rotations much more enjoyable and less stressful.

How many people do you think they will take off of the list this year? Last year they took about 58 out of 60.

My guess will be 45 people. Lets hope for more!!!!!

I'm guessing about 55. Bowler I hope you get in! When do you guys find out what your rank is, if you haven't already?

Hey thanks! Im hoping so too. They sent us an email stating we should now find out by about April 21st. Which part of Wisconsin are you from and what school you are you attending now?

I currently live in Kenosha, went to Carroll (Waukesha) and am currently working in the real world! What about you?

Well I'm still going to school at UW-Eau Claire, but originally from Green Bay. I will make sure to let you know where I stand with the waitlist!
 
Don't give up hope weary waitlisters I was waiting for my number on the waitlist and instead of that news, I got accepted into the duluth campus. 🙂

Congratulations! Welcome to the U of MN Class of 2012. I will be on the Twin Cities campus starting this fall.
 
Congratulations Dabe! You're the first one that has posted about coming off the waitlist. It's definitely encouraging. 4/21/08 seems to be approaching so very slowly....

they called and said that they just finished ranking the waitlist and had some seats open and available for admissions

Well....just got my ranking today. Im number 17!!! Man i hope enough people drop out of the program. I really want to go to Minnesota!
 
thats a good number to be at. You will definately get in. Did you choose the either duluth or minnesota option? because your chances are even better with that option?

Thanks for the positive outlook! I put that I would go to either campus. All I know is that if I get into Duluth, I better remember my shovel. I think Wisconsin snow is bad already 🙂

Did you see the campus at Duluth yet? I haven't and really not sure what to expect if I get in there.

I am #14 on the waitlist and I chose either campus.
 
r there other schools that follow the last 2 years gpa system?

Nice ranking! Are you thinking of taking the Minnesota position at all or are you still going where accepted? Good luck on the waitlist!
 
I received my official leter of acceptance today and it shows that I have to complete another course in english composition or literature and a course in behavioral science. Did anybody have to do additional courses as well. What courses would u recommend I take?

I was a chemistry/criminal justice double major, so I took a ton of sociology classes. I would suggest taking a class on societal issues, juvenile delinquency, crime and punishment to name a few. They're really interesting and you won't be bored.

The only class that I have left is microbiology and I'm taking that now. Almost done!

I know for the English requirement they are relatively open for this topic. It suggest taking an advanced english writing class, but I took a scientific writing for a general audience which covered the requirement. I thought that was a cool class and was easy, so maybe if you can find something similar to that. Hope that helps.

I have to finish Microbiology which im taking at University of Wisconsin- Green Bay over the summer. Putting 16 weeks into 4!
 
I made a phone call to the university today to have them answer my questions about immunization shots still needed and they told me they were on number 5 going on 6 for the waitlist. Just thought I would let the waiters know!

Getting close! It would be neat if Minnesota had a web page on their site that showed the current waitlist number that they were on.

That would make things a lot easier! I should've written that in my needs improvement section of my survey.
 
I took the PCAT at the Duluth campus. It is a beautiful campus. Do pack a shovel and a big coat though! I am ranked #30 and, if accepted, will be attending TC.
 
I was just wondering if anyone started looking for housing in either Twin Cities or in Duluth. What type of prices are you seeing and are you looking for another roommate or just living on your own? Just thought i would get some advice

I'm seeing some pretty cheap prices in Duluth around the UMD campus (approx. 650 for rent, 2 br) and even cheaper for 1 br or efficiency. Ruth Leathers at the Duluth campus has been sending out emails just about weekly with people looking for roommates and their email addresses. I'm sure that the Twin Cities campus has a similar weekly email system.

Do you know what number they've reached as of yet? Should be getting close! Most people have heard from all of their schools already, so I'm sure that people will be locking in their final decisions.

Well I called today and they said they were on number 8 so not a big advancement, but like you said I bet they will be rolling in soon. I know one girl who was accepted into Minnesota and Wisconsin and is just waiting to see if her grades are good enough this semester to stay at Wisconsin and then she will drop her Minnesota acceptance. Hope the call comes soon! (Mostly so i dont have to focus on my upcoming finals as much 🙂 )

I know it's not updated daily, but the U is posting on their website how many have been admitted from the waitlist. At least it gives us a general idea!
