I dont know how many of you are from Minnesota or even applying for the EDP for the entering class in Fall 2009 but i just have a few questions:

I set up my interview today from January 15 and the whole process so far has seemed to be pretty laid back... what can I expect at the interview? Will it be as serious as the 'real' interview for acceptance?

how many people normally apply for and and how many get in?

If anyone has gone through this program and has any information on it I would love to hear it, i just don't know what to expect...

thanks a lot, i really appreciate it

I thought about doing this, but took my DAT late, etc. etc.. I just got accepted this November.

Approach it like an interview- wear a nice suit, bring your transcripts, and be at your best. Also, have an outline of the courses you took and still need to take, and a plan to complete them. Have you taken your DAT?

They have changed the EDP as of last yar, so I am not really sure if it is as laid back as it was before, but the actul interview was pretty laid back and relaxed.

Know why you want to be a dentist and show that you are motivated to get there by what you do in life as well as your motivation for the field itself.

Overall, it will be pretty laid back and they will outline everything you need to do to get in. Your DAT must be at a certain level (see www.umn.edu Dental Page) and your GPA must stay in a specific range. If you complete these parameters and overall have an excellent application, you will do great. I know they give preference to MN residents, but also do not discount out of state residents.

You should look at interview feedback forums for Minnesota on SDN. There is also a few people on SDN that went through the EDP. It sounds like a grear program. MN is a sweet school and the new technology is fantastic. Keep in touch with the program directors and Niki Cook (admissions coordinator) and make sure to show you are extremly interested in the school.

If you have not done any volunteer work or shadowing, get a start on it before you interview if you can of at least line up some dentists to shadow.

PM me if you have any other questions.

I believe the will NOT accept more than 30% of their class from EDP. They have a class size of 95-96 so that is around 30 ppl.

There is also the consideration they may or may not choose to accept even when applying through the EDP. If that is the case, then generally, you go into the regular pool of applicants.

Yes, that is correct!

You can apply EDP and "get accepted" before you even take the DAT. If you then take the test and do not score at or above the national average in every category then you thrown into the general applicant pool. Same thing happens if you don't keep the grades they want. The requirements and standards that you have to maintain are on their website.

You can find out you are in EDP in like July, but then you also receive an acceptance letter in December following the completion of the DAT etc.

I wanted to apply EDP but my first DAT scores were not good enough. I believe you can only take the DAT once to get in this way... that might not be true.

I got in December 1st as a regular applicant after I retook the DAT though... but the EDP is a nice way to not have to stress all the way until December. When Gale Shea was the Admissions Director, I believe she told me that they were going to cycle this program out in the next 5 years... she isn't there anymore so that also might not be true.
