No one will give you a straight answer to your question. Ultimately anyone here commenting is giving their opinion, though I am not sure what they are based on. I will tell you how things went for me (a minority) and you can decide if you *think* that I had a better chance of getting in, and by how much.
I didnt graduate undergrad, had 92 credits of matriculation, 3.4 GPA overall, a 3.8 Science. I got a 19 on the dat overall, and a 21 on the PAT. However, I scored a 12 or 13 (I dont remember which one) on the quantitative reasoning section.
A number of the schools I applied to have a minimum requirement for scores in each section of the dat, so they wouldnt even consider mine because of the math section. Or so I thought. UoP being one of those schools, I called them and they told me that as posted on their website they wouldnt consider an applicant if they didnt get at least an 18 on each section.
However during the interview period of the year (Aug. to Jan/Feb) I received a call from UoP telling me that they wanted to schedule an interview with me but I hadnt sent in my secondary application/fee yet. They went ahead and scheduled it there, but told me that I needed to send it in as soon as possible.
I also had an interview at Indiana. When I arrived for my interview I was pulled aside by the director of multicultural affairs and was told exactly what to say in my interview. For example I was told I should mention an interest in research, and that I should ask some questions about their PBL curriculum etc
The same woman that told me these things was on the admissions committee. Although she didnt interview me that day, she did interview other people that day.
I also got interviews at a few different schools. However I was rejected almost immediately from NOVA, and VCU, and HOWARD. There were others that I was eventually rejected from, but I dont remember them.
I am a second year dental student. I didn't end up going to either UoP or Indiana, however.
