I think I may need a miracle. I've posted before and I'm still in the "I really want ER mindset" Because my academics are dismal, I have tried to talk myself into less competitive residencies, but to no avail. I really want ER. I need suggestions as to programs that will put more weight into 3rd and 4th year, rather than first 2 years and Step 1. My clinical grades are all hp and honors. What programs might be good for me?

Umm, that would be all of them. Seriously, I don't think there is a single program that would put more weight on preclinical rather than clinical years (not just in ER, in most specialties). Sounds like you haven't read the FAQ, you should really go through it - it has lots of good info.

Agreed with above.. If you are a USMG you will get a decent # of interviews.. Kid from my school failed step 1 once, mediocore grades, got held back a yr, has the personality that makes you wish you had coarse sandpaper rubbing your genitals but with help from his advisor picked where to apply and has gotten a high # of interviews.. Get good advisor help.. Get Strong LORs....Rotate where you want to go and learn something before you start so you can sound all educated and "learned"... Good luck!

😳 Umm... is that not what everyone does while they read SDN?

Im just hoping to give the OP some confidence cause he should have it..

Thanx for the input, but my situation is more like the guy who failed Step 1(I did) and had mediocre grades. I'm worried about cut-offs for interviews.

dude-

if you find what you want to do in life... just go for it. if it takes you another year (which it probably won't) -- then, at least in the end you're doing what makes you happy rather than seeing patients in clinic everyday who are noncompliant (i mean, medicine is fine if you like that stuff... but, seriously) -- - - people come on here asking for chances, and stats, and all that jazz- but, really - its so dependent on the individual and what they're willing to do to get what they want.

good luck.
